And I'll be there right behind the Dodger dugout with my family. Will post some pics. Greatest Dodger in my lifetime, but I think Shohei will be taking that title soon.

Hmmm... I hate hate hate hate the Friday traffic getting to Dodger Stadium, but maybe I'll make an exception for this one.

Don't let Sanlmar see this thread.

I knew Kershaw was retiring this year. He's been in MLB since 2008, and he's pitching in pain. He would have retired at the end of 2024 after the Dodgers won a full season World Series (the first one since '88, and the second since '65), but you could tell Kershaw felt empty because he wasn't part of it. Being on the DL for the entire postseason didn't allow him to break his postseason curse and declare himself a World Series champ. To him it felt like a participation trophy.

So he came back one more year to try and be part of it this time, and if the Dodgers fell short, he'd give up anyway.

He problem left it open to possibly come back in 2026 if he felt better than expected, but now he's made his decision.

Kershaw also seems like a good human being. He has a bit of a temper and is a perfectionist, but he's never been in any trouble, treats his teammates well, and you can tell he does his charity work out of a true feeling of obligation, rather than for optics.

He's also been with one girl his entire life, and is probably the least likely player in MLB to fuck around on his wife while on the road, even though it would be incredibly easy to do so.

I do wonder if Kershaw has any interest in coaching, or if he's just going to leave baseball, and show up every so often for alumni games or tributes. I'm guessing it's more going to be the latter.

Justin Turner is likely retiring after this year, too. I could totally see Turner as a coach or a manager, and in fact will be surprised if he doesn't go that route. With Kershaw, I can't really see it.

Kershaw appears to be sweet guy. He has a great great voice and I remember him as being intelligent and perceptive when interviewed. Kershaw exhibits all the signs of crippling empathy which likely affected him in the post season but would make him tremendous in the booth.

Kershaw and drunk Orel would be an interesting pairing when Joe Davis is off doing whatever else it is he does poorly.

Normal broadcasting teams fill the time with occasional laughs. Baseball is long and anecdotes about food and family often fill the space. Padres announcer These days Don Orsillo makes entertainment in the booth a high art. Vin Scully was superlative and he didn’t need a straight guy. The Vin Scully rambles were art.

Kershaw might be a hidden gem behind the mic.

Ya, I have to pick my mom up in Bakersfield, so we're leaving at 4. I lucked out. My brother offered me his tickets a few days ago. Luckily, he's out of town, or he'd be taking them back for sure!

Jayjami, you're lucky your brother left you those seats!

    The prices are insane: https://www.stubhub.com/los-angeles-...29d&quantity=2

No seat in the stadium under $196, and no good seat under $730.

Looks like I won't be going after all. These are World Series prices.

    Jayjami:

I bet you thought it was going to be a failgame when Kershaw gave up a leadoff HR (after almost allowing it 2 pitches before), and then Kike Herandez botched a double play to leave everyone safe.

Turned out to be a nice game for a Dodgers fan, seeing Ohtani/Betts go back-to-back to make it 5-2 from 2-1, and then never give up the lead.

And Tanner Scott (barely) managed not to blow the 3 run 9th inning lead.

It's Dodgers-Giants. Anything can happen. I'll post some pics tomorrow, but my favorite moment was the look on Mookie's face when Shohei hit that 3 run 2 out opposite field homer to take the lead. He was like: "Who the fuck is this guy and what planet is he from?" Then he hit one himself!

How does your brother have seats like this?

    Is he really rich?

Or are these the Yaamava seats, and he's a degen who got them for that reason?

I live vicariously thru you Jayjami

I swear to you I considered rewinding the game to see if Mary Hart stayed til the end this one time.

She’s follows the Dodgers more than even I do. I don’t have to drive though. I remember her mimicking Craig Kimbrel funny stance when he looked in for the sign from his catcher. She said she was trying to get in his head. Love her.

My brother has a little money. He owns a quarter interest in 4 seats. Last year they were behind the dugout, but to my surprise he’s upgraded to right next to the on deck circle.

Clayton Kershaw is most likely a descendent of the Kershaws of Kershaw County, South Carolina. The Kershaws arrived in that area from England in the 1750’s and the county was named after them. My Crim(m) ancestors were in Kershaw County from 1772 to 1825. The families likely knew each other.
