The problem with buying the "yes" on Putin meeting with Zelenskyy by August 31 is that the two of them have to meet in person within less than 10 days (it's already August 22 over there).
Zelenskyy said he would meet with Putin if his security can be guaranteed. Putin said that, for the moment, he sees no point to meet with him.
Recall that during Trump's latest meeting with Zelenskyy, he tried to go to the other room and get Putin to agree to a phone call with Zelenskyy. Putin wouldn't do it, but it didn't seem like a hard no for the future.
So I think it would be a phone call first, and then eventually a meeting if things are going well. But August 31 is just too soon.
I believe there's a decent chance that Trump will announce tomorrow that a phone call will occur. Sadly there seems to be no market for this.
I doubt the announcement is about the Epstein files. I don't think either side wants them ever released.
