    200 Dollar Flashlight

Son getting a 200 dollar flashlight for his job as a park ranger. I thought desert runner would be impressed. One month paid training made him pay out of pocket for flash light also uniform. He is going to have a really good resume wants career in law enforcement. Had to pay for 2 handcuffs Smith and Wesson also doubt he will have to use them.

Good post and thanks for thinking of me.

I am not really up on the lastest light info, but guessing your son got a Streamlight Stinger 2020? Those seem to be the benchmark in law enforcement. I still have and use my Streamlight Pro-Tac HPL (USB rechargeable) a lot here at home and on the road. Druff happened to buy the same light a well. I assume he used it during his recently black out. Mark my words, your son will be using his flashlight a lot on the job. As for handcuffs, I know S&W is a good brand. As a park ranger, he might actually use them on someone. Hope you can keep us updated on his progress.

As for law enforcement, if I was going to get into it, I would love to be a LE Ranger for the Department of the Interior, a federal job. They have large areas to patrol of federal land and not always doing the routine city police duties.

Here is a picture of a protest in Nevada (possible Nye County) about 4-5 years ago. The officers are Dept of Interior Rangers, full fledged federal law enforcement. Seems like a pretty good gig.

Side note- This is why I enjoy bulletin board forums like this- information sharing.

The flashlight is a MODLITE NOXON EVAK. He finished his first week of training, 3 more to go. Hope he does not have to pummel someone with that flashlight. I know he will be able to retire nice and early if gets the right job.

That's a serious light, I am not really up on the more fancy units out there. In the Facebook groups, those guys are way more fanatical than me and really make and modify some wild stuff. I am always basic duty light simple guy. Hopefully he wont lose that light and it goes the whole career with him. If he does by chance ever need a second light, I'd def opt for the Streamlight Pro-Tec HPL, it’s one of the best in my opinion and even Druff bought one (he cracked open the Jew wallet big time).

And yes, benefits are nice. We always say to have the big 3- Pension, union and overtime.

For the most part, park rangers don't have to do a lot of real law enforcement work, aside from dealing with drunk and disorderly people.

Occasionally they encounter mentally ill people who attempt to take up residence at these state/national parks, and can be a pain in the ass to arrest or remove.

    Good luck to your son.

Frank- If you got a Stremlight Pro-Tac HPL, I bet your son would like it and "borrow" it from you.

If Druff ever got into public safety, he'd probably be a ranger, it fits him.

Druff could never work for the government. The inefficiencies would drive him crazy. He’d surely make suggestions to “improve” the system, but he’d be ignored. Shut up and cash your paycheck already weirdo.

Eventually, we should get a Streamlight Pro-Tec HPL review from Druff. It might be a long one, but that ok.

Update, son is in his final training next week. They made him get pepper sprayed yesterday and then hit the heavy bag to fight thru effects of the spray . He is going to be required to wear a vest. He is scheduled for over time next week he will also be tazed. Kind of worried about him with all that is going on. They are short staffed so he will be able to get overtime. Already scheduled for overtime next week and July 4. I hope they don't deploy him to playland park its really a gheto. Told him he has to take off uniform lot of nuts out there would confuse him as a cop. Saw a really cool flashlight for like 80 bucks yesterday.

Ive been pepper sprayed before and it totally sucks, no a joke. Also love the overtime. The 3 basic things you want in a career- Union, overtime and pension.

Just curious what make and model?

Why did you get pepper sprayed?

If you can, I would get the Streamlight Pro-Tec HPL, then you, Druff and I can start a Flashlight Club. (j/k)

Frank- If he ever loses that $200 light, urge him to get a Streamlight Pro-Tec HPL as a replacement. He will like the USB rechargeable feature.

Yeah , he had to request someone to leash their dog and they had to get rid of camper who was setting up where he wasn't supposed to. Got overtime and a nice check In other my son news he was initially rejected from Central Florida. He had a 3.5 gpa at michigan state and re applied for Central Florida, this time he got in. Will have to drive up and get all his shit from storage unit.

I live in brush country in norht LA County, (Druff can confirm) and was watching the brush area behind my home for fireworks. The Nebo 500 lumen searchlight is pretty powerful and can reach across the 5 freeway and hit the canyon.

Speaking of flashlights- Back in the 80s and 90s, the Mag Lite flashlight ruled the Christmas present domain. They also ruled in the law enforcement world as most cops carried them and use them to subdue as suspect, ask Rodney King.

Sad part, Mag Lite could not keep up with the market pace and adjust their new models and designs and got passed up. Today, they still dont have any USB rechargeable lights.
