PokerGO Dropping the Ball Again

PokerGO is doing a weak job of covering the WSOP. Yesterday they were showing the 10k PLO final table and many people online were complaining that they should be showing Negreanu's final table in the $2500 Mixed Big Bet. Eventually they put up some "bonus coverage" of Negreanu's table but it had no hole card graphics. So that video was like watching paint dry in 2001. (Negreanu finished 4th, btw)

Now, today, we have Martin Kabrhel 2nd in the final 5 of the $1000 Mini-Main, and Negreanu 3rd out of 36 left in the $100K PLO and PokerGO isn't going to show either of these events. They are doing one stream of the Main Event Day 1 and another stream of a random cash game at The Venetian. WTF. Nobody cares about the cash game at the Venetian. Who is running PokerGO? They need to hire someone with a brain.

Yeah poker is in a really sad state when all of its media is pushing Kabrhel as must see TV.

It’s not like “Hey, here’s this quirky autistic poker savant, check him out.”

Instead it’s a constant focus on him.

Anyway, to Dave’s point, it’s very stupid how they don’t have a crew ready to set up a second table and broadcast unscheduled final table coverage when it’s interesting.

Their contrast is up next year and I’m hearing GG is planning to cover things a lot better.

Every final table should be streamed/recorded, especially since PokerGo is a subscription site. WSOP website did this (for free) back in 2008 for crying out loud.

PokerGO is so rigid and unflexible with calling any audibles. I always thought it was tough for them to get the guys who work behind the camera to change their hours around much at all. But this has been the story for many years. I haven’t watched much this summer but still the same excuses about not switching to cover another event. Such as this table is for Holdem not mixed games, we can’t just switch things around easily, etc.

But the weirdest thing of all to me is the non-stop PokerStars advertisements. In fact, the PokerStars channel seems to be doing a duplicative broadcast of many final tables with their own announcers. Isn’t PokerStars supposed to be GG’s biggest competitor? Didn’t GG just spend a fortune to acquire the WSOP?

So why all of a sudden is a series that GG owns seemingly being taken over by PokerStars? Are they merging or did GG acquire PokerStars and I didn’t notice. Just really bizarre to me.

Kabrhel is the chip leader heads up in the Mini Main and PokerGO is not showing it. It's a travesty.

Some of the poker spectators are just idiots. I want to say it was last week when the chat was all bitching that DNegs wasn’t on the feature table when they had come back from a break and there’s a policy out of fairness that tables rotate to allow a balance of folks gaining abnormal intel from watching tons of his hands in the tournament and giving them time away from the feature table with hole cards. There has to be a fair balance otherwise guys like Dnegs are going to end up with a disadvantage at the table with all their hole cards being known.

Main Event feature tables are pretty boring tonight. They also had audio issues for the first few hours. The commentators and the players were mixed to the same level, so it was a cacophony. Chaos reigns.

While the fairness concept is valid, I hate it. Should be tough shit. Part of playing this tournament is you may be on the feature table. They shouldn’t have to switch to boring tables for “fairness”. It is either a product for viewing or it’s not. Let the players bitch all they want. It’s part of the deal.

I've watched a lot of the PokerGo coverage, especially as sort of background watching while I work. Overall I found the NLHE coverage to be very boring. The best two streams were the 2-7 Triple Draw and $50k Poker Players Championship. Perhaps not coincidentally, Bleznik was commentating both and actually gave great insight and ripped into all the players.

I would recommend watching them both if you haven't.

Your opinion is interesting as you’re younger than most of us. The olds here will forever be chasing that poker boom high. It’s never gonna be like that. But kids don’t know how novel and exciting poker broadcasting once was. This is all they know.

Why would a human watch endless hours of WSOP reruns on late night tv all summer long? We did. Could not get enough. The easiest low cost programming ESPN ever had for years and years.

Hopefully The Travel Channel puts in a bid for the rights.
