You guys are vastly underestimating how final tables are played. The chip leader can and does control the order of knockouts if he can. Standard final table play is acquiring that power and knowing how to take advantage of it. Sometimes the cards break against you but basically every payout jump is a huge bubble that can and does get exploited by a good chip leader. I don’t know the specifics of who controlled this final table and exactly when they got control but getting to a situation where these two would end up heads up, opposed to any other two is very possible to manipulate, and doesn’t require “cheating.” And gets easier with every elimanted player. 3 handed a chip leader should attack 2nd place and lay down to the short stack as much as possible. U win first with like 5 players left if u can. U try to choose who u go heads up with. If these two friends and the only ones who could split that money safely and not get screwed, it puts the whole final table play in question imo. Maybe it didn’t work like that here, but it def can. Real players may have been screwed and this deal could’ve been set up before heads up play, and then finalized when they did get heads up. That’s not impossible at all. And yeah anyone stupid to not take the extra mill if they can without defrauding the WSOP. This is the fkn WSOP. You defraud it… gtfo out of poker

There may have been several players trying to take that dude to heads up play with them, knowing he had that ticket, thereby almost guaranteeing him second. Should never been allowed for wpt to make that kind of promotion on WSOP. Laws were def broken. Sorry shady ass scammers. Anyone who make that deal with all those cameras and try to defraud anyone is fuckin stupid. It’s not as easy as it sounds and look how stupid u look in front of whole world. Huge difference between chopping the money and playing for the bracelet and dumping the bracelet to defraud a regulated contest being fkn filmed. lol at anyone who really wants to be these two dudes right now. I hope they get arrested

And super lol at any moron who says they did nothing wrong. Yeah ur a moron. You know who knows they were doing something wrong? At the very least the two dudes who played heads up… they didn’t just openly dump and celebrate the extra million! No no no, they knew they had to try to play it off. lol at chip leader never getting shorty allin… gtfo here. They defrauded everyone and knew they were doing it.

@QuadKings I think you are being overly dismissive to people who post on this site. This site is not a bunch of idiots. “Wrong” is also in the eye of the beholder. We know there are many things including friendships, swaps, side bets, etc that can manipulate how play will go at a final table.

WPT are being massive trolls because they can and there’s nothing that stops them from doing so. Last I seen Druff posted that the are doubling down on this idea But it’s just total speculation on your part that these two were steering this final table to get heads up. Also I use the word “steer” because as long as they weren’t signaling each other their cards or blatantly colluding that is going to be awfully hard to prove.

My speculation back to you is that if these two actually colluded to get down to 2 then I would think they would have done a better job during heads up play. But at the same time they simply couldn’t risk the shorter stack being all in and covered, so it was always going to look blatant.

My belief is once a tourmqnt is heads up it’s effectively over. The last two can go run to the chapel and get married before they finish if it will help make their tax situation more preferable for all I care. But this is the WSOP and it does award a bracelet. So I think Druff’s idea of withholding the hardware and paying the guys out is correct. Unless there is some clear evidence of collusion before it got heads up.

So do you think they should be paid in full absent any new evidence? Because then at the end of the day we end up with the same position. Which really is all the matters.

Matt Glantz is claiming they got banned, but I'm not seeing that anywhere else.

If they got banned, I don't support that.

Yeah that's what I heard too, both got a lifetime ban. Wow that takes this to a whole new level. I think the wsop twitter account didn't want to mention that because of the backlash they knew would happen.

So far nobody has corrected the ban rumor (and in fact a guy saying he's Carroll's friend confirmed it), so it's probably true.

If so, that's a major overreaction, and I feel bad for these guys. They really just thought they were doing something clever to win ClubWPT's money. ClubWPT isn't angry about it at all, so aside from not awarding a bullshit bracelet (which is the correct decision), WSOP should let this go and just make stricter rules about this for next time.

To ban these guys is really overkill. Additionally, it's getting everyone really angry, so it's not even winning them any PR points.

On a side note, I'm wondering who made the decision to ban them. Caesars no longer owns the WSOP. GGPoker, the new WSOP owner, cannot ban people form Caesars properties (only the WSOP itself). So why did Caesars ban them? Maybe they were worried about a licensure issue if they didn't?

    Strange.

Don't expect a statement from GG or Caesars about this, as they will cite player privacy issues.

Chad Holloway agrees with my guess that Gaming is the reason these guys got banned (if they did get banned):
