I had frustrating debates with 2 left wing Facebook friends about this. Neither are in the poker or gambling communities, in case you're wondering.
Friend #1 is in full radical mode and wants the people to have a violent uprising to "take the country back", whatever the fuck that means.
Friend #2 is more reasonable (separate conversation, they don't know each other), but honestly believes that the protests were peaceful and that the violence was almost 100% the fault of the police & national guard "instigating". How can someone believe this?? I got them to concede that there were at least a "few violent protesters", but they changed the subject by telling me that most of the police action involved attacking totally peaceful protesters doing totally peaceful things.
Both honestly believe that the National Guard is there to suppress dissent and violate everyone's Constitutional rights to free speech and protest. When I cited examples of mass violence occurring, both ignored the subject or minimized it.
I basically shut the whole thing down by saying, "Show me a truly peaceful protest where the government comes in to suppress it, and I'll be the first one to speak out against it, regardless of what is being protested. But that's not what's happening here, and just because there's some people protesting peacefully, that doesn't make the protest peaceful."
Remember the "98% peaceful protests" lie of 2020? That's basically what's going on here with the left.
