I am getting a report that Mark "Doc" Toulouse, a popular player in the Texas poker scene, passed away during a tournament at Texas Card House Dallas.
Texas Card House was holding a $300 buyin NL Holdem tournament, receiving 1649 entrants. According to the report I received, Mark collapsed during the tournament, was taken to a local hospital, and passed away.
When the incident occurred, players were already in the money. Mark's stack blinded out, and he officially finished in 26th place, for a cash of $1,475, making him one of the very rare poker players to have cashed in a tournament while deceased.
According to records I found online, Mark was 73 years old. He was very well liked in the Texas poker scene. Mark was nicknamed "Doc" because he was a professor in Toronto, last working at Emmanuel College, before retiring in 2017.
Mark had $551k worth of Hendon Mob results, most of it coming after 2018, following his retirement. His best cash was a tournament win for $89k in August 2022, at a $400 NL tournament in Dallas.
RIP
