But again, i DO have an opinion on the topic- I think transgenderism is mental illness and the solution is counseling, therapy and self respect instead of surgery and hormone therapy. Yes. We have all hashed out the rise of transgender young people amongst ourselves years ago. Some of us think it’s a dysmorphia that should be discouraged and treated, other have different views. It’s like breast cancer awareness at this point. Everyone is aware over 10. Imagine thinking you are winning an argument where almost everyone agrees on the subject and most here are simply commenting on what a freak you are to obsess over it.

What we do need to raise awareness of is autism spectrum disorders and their links to “special interests.”

Trains and fire trucks being 1a and 1b on the list of ASD special interests. There is also a number of posts around the web from parents curious why their autistic child is fascinated with flashlights. You obviously know this from your post, but many would be shocked to see how many smiling autistic kids there are out there getting their dream ride on a fire truck they’ve been obsessed with since childhood.

Had this type of awareness been available during desert’s adolescence, they may have identified his now obvious condition and took steps to help him learn self coping mechanisms for all these various issues that trigger him into these histrionic tantrums and obsessions. It’s sad, but the next generation of spectrum kids can benefit from increased awareness of what it looks like untreated in desert. Any parent seeing how desert is would strongly take proactive steps to spare their kid a similar fate. A fifty year old man tirelessly searching for tranny pics as his new “special interest” sends a chill up anyone’s spine.
