I often take extended trips to Laughlin when I tire of the winter cold as well. It's a great and affordable place to get away from it.

Peak snowbird season there is right after New Year's to the bike rally at the end of April. Tons of folks from the Upper Midwest and Canada bring their RV's down for that three month stretch.

    In order of your questions:

HOTELS: Pretty much all decent and reasonably priced. The room comps at the CET properties (Harrah's and Tropicana) are the easiest in the entire Caesars Entertainment system as far as the amount of play required to get them. You can book up to 5 comped nights in a row too which is nice. Tropicana's rooms are adequate... definitely nothing special. Harrah's is tower-dependent. The South Tower is renovated and the rooms are very nice; the Central and North Towers feel like stepping back into 1985. Insist on the South Tower if at all possible.

Golden Nugget's rooms are fine and are just like a Golden Nugget anywhere else. Overpriced for the market and the comps are not particularly easy.

The Pioneer is actually fine in a pinch. Looks a bit dingy from the outside but the rooms themselves are fine and very reasonable. I think if you earn a certain number of points in a day in the casino you qualify for a free room. The mailers they send are garbage though.

    The Belle is closed permanently.

Edgewater is the only hotel that I would avoid at all costs.

Aquarius rooms are very nice and prices will fluctuate wildly depending on the day of the week... They charge a Vegas-style resort fee though so be aware of that. I'm not sure how easy it is to get around it.

Riverside is fine and the mailers are great if you give them some decent play. They have recently instituted a resort fee but just getting to the second-tier players card (which is relatively easy) waives that. Like Aquarius, regular rates also vary widely by the day of the week.

I've never stayed at Laughlin River Lodge but I've heard not-so-great things.

    RESTAURANTS:

CET: fine but in typical CET fashion *way* overpriced for the market.

Lodge: fine in a pinch and you can't beat the prices.

Nugget-Like CET... fine but overpriced with the exception of Saltgrass, which I actually enjoy. Avoid Bubba Gump like the plague. Claim Jumper... fine I guess but meh...

Belle: Once again, closed permanently which is a shame because the both the food and the beer at the brewpub there were top-top. Reasonably priced too. RIP.

Edgewater: Not much experience. I haven't eaten at the steakhouse since it changed themes a few years back and otherwise it's all chains: Pinkbox, (out of Vegas) Capriotti's, (ditto) Denny's and some burger chain also out of Vegas whose name escapes me at the moment.

Regency: Small locals joint between Edgewater and Aquarius and in my opinion the restaurant there is the true hidden gem in Laughlin. The breakfast is fantastic and the prime rib is excellent as well. They also have very good daily specials.

Aquarius: Another place with a lot of chains renting space. McDonalds/Subway/Panda Express/Outback. The Outback is decent as far as Outbacks go. They seem for some reason to order better quality cuts of meat than most other Outbacks around.

Riverside: My favorite restaurant in the whole city is the Prime Rib Room. It's a sorta-buffet. You help yourself to the salad bar, the side dishes and the desserts and they are all-you-can-eat. Then when you're ready the prime rib cart comes around and the carver slices it fresh for you. Absolutely outstanding for the price. I haven't eaten in the Gourmet Room in years but it's probably the most upscale place in town. There's a standard 24-hour coffee shop too which is adequate, as well as a Fatburger.

In-n-Out is across the street near Tropicana and of course you can't go wrong there.

Bullhead City, AZ (across the river) has all the normal chain/quick-service/fast food places as well as an *excellent* Mexican restaurant called El Charro.

I'll cover the rest in the next post.

DEALS: The whole town is a deal if you're the least bit savvy, which it sounds like you are.

DISCOUNTS/COUPONS: See above. If you want a decent list of all the players club promotions the various places have, pick up a copy of the weekly magazine there called the Laughlin Entertainer. You can find it in pretty much any hotel lobby. Also a great single resource for restaurant hours, etc.

POKER: Only two options left: Harrah's and Riverside. Harrah's is only open Thursday-Sunday and the only games spread are 2-5 NL and 3-6 limit. It's really gone downhill in recent years, and the pandemic didn't help.

Riverside is open 7 days a week and offers 1-2 NL, (usually only goes evenings) 2-10 spread and 4-12 Omaha 8-B with a half kill. Decent action on weekends but the SL games on weekdays are dominated by nitty snowbird types. They do offer some decent promotions which are constantly changing so be sure to stop in and get a current list.

SLOTS: Standard stuff you'll find anywhere else.

TABLES: Same. Riverside still spreads a countable 3-2 single deck game if you're into that sort of thing.

AP: All the exploitable machines you'll find anywhere else. Never any heat for me personally but I've heard of blatant slot hustlers getting 86'ed from Riverside before. Competition for plays is not Las Vegas-level but is still pretty intense compared to some other markets I've been in. Definitely not a place I would go if I wanted to do it full-time.

OTHER STUFF: Lots of the bars have live music on weekends and the Losers' Lounge nightclub at the Riverside makes for some very interesting people watching on weekends... Not much as far as nightlife goes on during the week though. The Hideout across the street from the Pioneer is a great place to go if you want to just chill and have a beverage. It has a great view too.

    Enjoy your trip!

    Great post above by buccos.

Do not try to meet single women in Laughlin, unless you're into those 75+.

There are just about zero single women in the Laughlin casinos.

However, if you get on dating apps or whatever, you'll find women your age in the Bullhead (AZ) and Needles (CA) areas. Not sure if you care about that, but just wanted to let you know. It's different than Vegas where you will see tons of groups of single girls roaming around the casinos.

great information thank you. I will update this post with while on my lil vacay.

Ive been to Laughlin before and am pretty familiar with the place but i was wondering if anything new lately-ish. I haven't been there more than a few days in the past few years. Really enjoy the river + the lake.

Appreciate all your information. I wish harrahs poker room could get some action going its so much more comfortable and cleaner than riversides poker room.

Curious what bad things you heard about the river lodge, That was personally my favorite as far as being nice/clean/quiet. But I dunno I wasn't there long or stayed in more than 2 or 3 rooms. About river lodge food - it is pretty good and quite cheap - i know one of the bartenders there he told me all the food is cooked in a processing plant and flash frozen then reheated when you order it, its still pretty good but its def not fresh or made on site - just fyi - no judgement.

I agree that Outback has seemed pretty damn good, I cant really compare because I don't go outback often but that one has not disappointed me, Aquarius cafe has good steak n eggs 13.99 , and yes the little cow themed casino is really great restaraunt.

i don't drink alcohol so i don't really care about bars and shit of that nature, i really only go with other people or if necessary because the bars got some decent machines sometimes.

@Druff I am curious what age do you either think/know i am, i do know its easily figure-out-able.

@Druff - you might not believe this but I have never used a dating app or website or whatnot type of service, slightly related i never hooked a hooker either, lol. I know its not a thing anymore but I remember when it was still almost a bit shameful to have met someone online for dating and I think that subconsciously colored my view of the apps negatively and its just never even a thought, but now you mention it maybe I will fire up tinder in Laughlin see what happens hahahaha, will report back.

Kind of random question for anyone who sees this but I think it would be possible to search for machines based on licenses held with the Nevada gaming commission, so i think there could be a way to search gaming's database of licenses for specific machines/games/tables etc. The goal of this would be to find out if a casino has a specific machine or game officially without much hassle. does anyone know of a ngc website that has database of licenses searchable like this?

What type of machines are you looking for?

You can use vpfree2.com to search for video poker there.

I don't know how old you are. Since you say you "remember when online dating was considered shameful", I assume you are at least middle aged. Actually, I never remember it being shameful -- just uncommon. I met girls online going back to the late 80s, and in fact lost my virginity at 17 to a girl 55 miles away who I met online. Guess I was ahead of my time, as now that's the primary way people meet for dating nowadays.

Laughlin weather is somewhat cool in December/January. You will often go awhile without seeing 70 degrees. It's similar temperature-wise to Los Angeles, except MUCH less rain. Laughlin has among the lowest yearly precipitation in the US, at just 1.78 inches.

Yes im aware of the common game/machine search options but just had this thought that there should be some database and it should probably be public but I don't think I've heard someone else mention something like this before. It would just be an ultimate resource if its out there.

Well I did say "almost shameful" and shame was a bad word choice, but akward isn't quite the word either, it was like just kinda strange and not taken serious and maybe like a little nerdy or something, but I was not involved in early computing where this would be normalized, I was roughly 10 years old in 2000.

My impression/understanding is that Laughlin weather is roughly 10 degrees warmer than LV all year round, and if thats true that is perfect winter temps to me. Lows around 45-47 highs around 66-68, thats perfect in my opinion, and I despise humidity so I am very pleased with desert rainfall #s.

Yes I was recently suprised to see just how hot Laughlin gets, think it got a new USA temp record this past year.

I was 15 or 14 and met some girl on AOL AIM and we were supposed to go watch a movie, when I got to the movie and saw her (she was hoooge) I left without her seeing me, and never tried online dating ever again LOL

Don Laughlin made sure the Riverside has more amenities than any other casino on the River. There is probably close to 10 restaurants, a kiddie care, bowling alley, live shows, multi-screen movie theater, nightclubs.

Nowadays probably the best video poker on the River, 9/6 Jacks, NSUD. The card adds a couple of tenths. Check the bartops in the River Bar (great view of the River) and the North Tower Bar.

Don't know what the advantage slot situation is these days but they've always had them.

Rooms are better in the south tower than the north tower. The Riverside has always had cable television, not so for the other joints. Plus safe deposit boxes.

There is a huge non-smoking section on the casino floor.
