Tyreek Hill aggressively arrested outside of Miami Dolphis stadium -- was this brutality or justified?

Tyreek Hill was arrested for reckless driving near the stadium in Miami.

He was put on the floor during the arrest, which was surprising, given who he is. Not a likely guy to resist arrest? But maybe he was. The video doesn't show that part.

He still managed to play, scored a TD, and the Dolphins won. Weird!

Full video... well, most of it:

    My analysis:

Tyreek Hill was being unnecessarily uncooperative and combative from the start. Since when is it okay to refuse to roll down your (tinted) window for the police during a traffic stop, or to roll it back up in the middle of being talked to?

Most of shit like this can be avoided by just being polite and businesslike, even if you don't agree with the traffic stop.

When I get pulled over, I automatically roll the window down. After I'm done talking to the cop and he walks away with my license, I sometimes roll it back up, especially if it's noisy/cold/hot outside. But I will only do that after he's out of view, and I will roll it back down as soon as he walks back up. I've never once had a confrontation about the window. There's just no reason for this,

With that said, the officer escalated it too quickly.

I don't think it was necessarily a racist thing. Probably just a combo of an officer on a power trip and an uncooperative driver who felt entitled because he's an NFL star.

Watching Get Up this morning I was offended by how they just blamed the police and nothing on Hill for acting like an asshole. Sorry but he deserved no special treatment for being “famous”. When you can’t see in the vehicle you are at risk as an officer. His refusal to keep the window down was a threat to the officers. Period.

But I understand, I’m not black so I can’t understand. The woke white guys on ESPN made that very clear to me this morning.

There are also reports that he was driving 100mph in a 55mph, which is probably misdemeanor reckless driving. (I am reading felony on social media, but that's probably bullshit.)

That doesn't justify the police being overly aggressive, but it does make it worse that he was so uncooperative. It's not like he can claim this was a bullshit stop.

I get Hill was being obnoxious, but the guy has been arrested and charged many times in his career, and he is not changing. One day he will take it too far and end up with a long prison stretch.

That said, post George Floyd cops have to be aware of their surroundings. He did pull over, and asked for the ticket. Yeah, he was obnoxious but it did not rise to the level to getting dragged out of a car with a knee on the back. I generally always take the police side, but this was a little much for a speeding infraction. I agree, if you are just respectful to the police, they return the respect. When I was in my 20s I was impaired driving, I was extra polite and the cop said he smelled alcohol on my breath. I admitted I had a couple drinks but was confident I was not near the limit. I lived in a townhome right down the street and said hey you can follow me home it's two blocks away and give me a sobriety test in the parking lot so we can get off this busy road (it was not the right place to do a test). He followed me to my place with his lights on and got out and said consider this a warning, don't do it again. Point is, to Druff's point, just be respectful and it generally works out. Both were wrong in this case.

Tyreek was an asshole and unnecessarily escalated the situation.

The one cop in particular was an asshole and unnecessarily escalated the situation.

Odds on both of the above were -1000 even before the video was released.

Hill isn’t your average guy. He punched his pregnant girlfriend in the stomach. Later he broke his own 3 year olds arm. Laughably he broke an instagram models leg when he had her doing drills with his 10 year old son. Fantastic player and amazingly fast, but I’d tase him the moment he started running his mouth if I was a cop. He’s always been a dick. He was such a dick he made probably 10% of his market value for first 4 years of his career.

Also it’s worth noting the Miami Dade Police are logically going to release the video that portrays them in the most favorable light first, and given that the body cam footage doesn’t exactly portray them in the best light you can believe the footage that follows will only make them look worse.

100% correct. Does anything think you would see Tony Dungy (fill in your favorite non controversial minority) act like this after a traffic stop?

There is a reason the Chiefs gave up on the #1 player in this years NFL Network Top 100 and still managed to win 2 straight Super Bowls after trading him.

The trash police deal with on a daily basis makes them jaded when someone is an asshole to them for no good reason other than he thinks he is entitled.

Jackass was probably trying to Muh Dik a fan before the game and was late.

Tyreek is likely lucky the officer pulled him out. Would assume he will get out of any ticket/fine.

in my county, our local cops will place you in custodial arrest and you will go to jail. i do not think at this speed it is an scheduled bondable offense, so you will have to sit in jail until you see the judge -- so w/n 48 hours. i feel no sympathy for anyone driving like that risking other lives. fuck him.

There’s literally footage of him speeding in the body cam video no way in hell was he going 100MPH.

But he was definitely going too fast regardless.

Being a dick to the police isn't illegal. Who gives a fuck if he rolls his window up when you walk back to your car to write him a ticket? Police are supposed to deescalate situations, not make them worse. Hill is legally required to pull over, provide you his information, and wait while you handle your business. He doesn't have to be nice or cordial to the police.

The fact that he rolled his window up and was mean to the police wound up with him in handcuffs and getting sucker punched in the face? Shit police work.

Are you finally making six figures or are you still on an hourly wage checking in hotel residents? If you are not making over $100K in this easy economy, well you never will.

Fucking dumb for anyone to fuck around with police like this. Sit there with your hands on the steering wheel and don't behave erratically.

Tyreek Hill especially should know given his experience with the system. LOL at anyone crying tears for that piece of shit.

Obviously the faggot mexicop has overstepped and police shouldn't act so rashly, this instance speaks to a broader systemic problem of idiot police having no control Ober their emotions.

But even if this wasn't Tyreek Hill I would think the same if the behavior was the same.

The correct play here for the cops would've been to take their sweet ass time writing him a ticket. Maybe having him step out of the car and question him face to face about the reason for the rudeness. Asking him a bunch of questions and just otherwise taking up a bunch of his time.

Instead, these idiots, decide to drag him out of the car and cuff him face down just to let him continue on and spike 180 yards and a touchdown in their face.

These were some of the dumbest cops on the planet.
