I had no idea. I really thought it was a cold.

Here's the WSOP Main timeline:

Day 1 (July 5): Felt great. Probably caught it while playing. Overall a good day where I finished well above average.

Off day (July 6): Felt normal.

Day 2 (July 7): Woke up tired and with sore throat. Hoped it was from Vegas dryness and the AC blowing in my mouth while sleeping. Felt very low energy for first 4 hours or so, but somehow drinking a Naked Juice made me feel significantly better, and while my throat still hurt, I didn't otherwise feel sick. Again a good day where I finished well above average.

Off day (July 8): Sore throat vanished. Turned into nasal congestion. Totally felt like a cold. At night, I was having difficulty sleeping from congestion getting in my throat. I was also getting brief chills, but I attributed it to the AC turning on and off. I kind of felt like I might have a low grade fever, but not sure.

Day 3 (July 9): Lousy day physically. Very runny nose I had to keep blowing during event. Back issues started ramping up again (probably unrelated, as I've had this for weeks). Would not have played cash like this, but obviously I couldn't just bail out of WSOP Main. Despite feeling awful physically, I played well and bagged nearly double average stack.

Day 4 (July 10): Runny nose was peaking and I was blowing my nose every 10 minutes or so. Still felt better than the previous day, but clearly still had a cold, or so I thought. Busted on this day in the evening.

July 11: Slept a lot, did some shit around Vegas I had been putting off, and then bounced outta town. Drive was uneventful and I didn't feel terrible. But definitely still had a cold.

July 12: Got home early morning. Felt something was weird because usually my colds clear very fast after peaking, and here it peaked 48 hours prior, got a little better, but wasn't really going away. Took COVID test, clear positive which showed up after just 3 minutes!

July 13 (3am): I'm feeling low energy like Jeb Bush and starting to get muscle and joint pain. So while I probably caught it a week ago, and have had symptoms for 6 full days, it seems like it might be getting worse. But maybe I'll sleep it off and it won't get much worse.

No fever, no smell or taste issues, no stomach issues.

I did notice I was having a little trouble concentrating in the middle of Day 4, and that it was preventing me from playing my A game. I have been beating myself up about it since busting, but now I don't feel as bad, knowing I was playing with COVID since Day 2.

Imagine if I were still in it now, and having to play through COVID.
I got a respiratory infection at the WSOP two weeks ago. It laid me up for 4 days. It could have been COVID. Didn’t get tested. I did get COVID 3 years ago at the series. The Horseshoe is infection central, with all those people coming from all over the world, it’s easy to catch bug you have no immunity from.
