A similar situation occurred in my school.

I was a junior in the 88-89 school year. A middle-aged history teacher (no one I ever had), who was very well liked among students, was suddenly arrested. Turned out he had been banging a 16-year-old (a girl in my grade, who I saw around but didn't really know).

How did he manage it? He used the Christian angle. He somehow got her into Christianity, and started giving her "religious counseling" in his class after school. Keep in mind that this was a public school where such a thing wouldn't be permitted anyway, even if it had no sexual element to it. Obviously this was just a pretext to get into her pants, and sure enough, they started having sex.

Unfortunately for him, the girl eventually saw through it and wrote him a letter telling him that she didn't feel this was right, and that she would continue being "one with the Lord", but would be ending their relationship. She left the letter sitting out on her desk, her mom found it, confronted her, and then they went to the police.

I don't remember what happened to him regarding criminal consequences, just that he was arrested and fired.

I do know that her parents screwed up, in haste to separate her from him, and abruptly transferred her out of his class the next day. He had not been arrested or fired yet. This would seem like the proper move, except her identity became obvious once he got arrested, as she was the only one to have abruptly disappeared from the class the prior week! Had they just rode this out until he got fired/arrested, nobody would have figured out which girl he was molesting, as it wasn't known to her classmates that she had a close relationship with the guy.

Anyway, I was shocked that she didn't switch schools. She stayed in for the remaining 1.5 years, and graduated with me. I remember reading some graffiti about her (in reference to the situation) in one of the boys bathrooms, and I felt bad reading it. And usually I found bathroom graffiti about other students hilarious (and may have even written some myself.)

The girl was pretty but very weird. She hung out on and off with the goth/punk crowd, but otherwise had a normal look except for usually wearing black. She was very quiet and spoke to almost nobody aside from her small friend group.
