What are they claiming is wrong with SLC?

Actually it's pretty nice there from April to October. Yeah, it's not that big of a market, and it's isolated, so it won't get much attendance or fandom from outlying areas (same problem Vegas has). However, the Jazz have done pretty well there, and while the entire state of Utah has only 3.3m people, they might get some fandom from northern Nevada, Idaho, and Montana.
I lived in SLC for 6 months in 2022. It’s a nice, affordable town. If the state wasn’t run by a religious cult, I’d could happily live there full time. The Mormons are very family oriented and actually spend time with their children. I think the A’s would do better there than Vegas, but the beer sales would be the lowest in the league!

Yeah I could see it as “boring” but still a nice place to live.

Oakland saying another place to live/work is trash that isn't Detroit or Gary Indiana is rich.

Starting to look questionable whether this LV A's thing will happen at all.

I liked the movie money ball. Funny scene when David Justice tried to get a soda and was told needs to pay for it from vending machine.

Final game at the Oakland Coliseum.

The ended up winning, and of course had a sellout crowd. They could have had even more people if they didn't have the upper outfield deck pre-covered the entire season.

I'm glad I went to Oakland this August to see the Dodgers play there. Wanted to see a game before that stadium closed and the A's left. Was worth all the hassle. Made a small road trip out of it, too.

The idea that a city pays for a building for a corporation is ridiculous. Good riddance, A's. The dude starves the franchise and makes David Justice pay for his own cokes and will make 25%/year. Fuck him, and fuck the rest of them. Billionaires getting richer do not deserve welfare.

It started to look like the A's would be schlepping to Montreal, Salt Lake City, Portland, or Nashville. Or staying in Sac. However, Las Vegas is now again looking like the ultimate destination.

Fisher is going to kick in $1b for the new stadium, US Bank / Goldman Sachs are going to throw in $300m, and the taxpayers will kick the final $380m. That should be enough. Probably.

The A's will definitely be in Sacramento from 2025-2027, at a minor league ballpark. They will play only 10 day games between June and September, in order to avoid the heat issue that can plague Sacramento in the summer.

The stadium and convention authorities are meeting this Thursday

The financials for the stadium are out there

    Fisher family $1.1b max

    Goldman loan $300m

    Municipal funding $385m

The stadium was est $1.5b and now is projected to be $1.75b

Unexpected Trump tariffs together with inflation and natural cost over runs spell a figure over $2b to $2.25b

The Fishers need to guarantee the difference and I’m not sure they can do this per their recent commications. They may have to sell part ownership.

This project is not breaking ground the first quarter of 2025 as planned in my opinion. Another half finished project languishing for a years in Vegas ?

Has the aroma of fail. Take a whiff

    Steven’s brothers to the rescue?

The plans look utterly conventional. Millenials and zoomers are no longer wired for sitting in a seat for 3 hours. I just don’t see a design that is forward looking.

December 3, 2024- A’s owner has finances in place for Las Vegas ballpark, bank says

    https://www.reviewjournal.com/?p=322...FBzw81O0WI1cgA

The family of Athletics owner John Fisher has adequate finances in place to cover its portion of the planned Las Vegas ballpark, according to U.S. Bank.

The statement was included in a letter written by U.S. Bank Senior Vice President Stephen Vogel and submitted to the Las Vegas Stadium Authority ahead of Thursday’s meeting of its board of directors. The budget for that meeting includes the A’s financial plan, the project’s budget increase and a trio of outstanding agreements set for approval.

With the budget of the stadium rising $250 million to $1.75 billion, the Fisher family will be responsible for providing a $1.1 billion equity contribution and taking on a $300 million construction loan from U.S. Bank and Goldman Sachs, for a total of a $1.4 billion. The other $350 million will be from the up to $380 million in public funding made possible by the signing of Senate Bill 1 in 2023.
