Thread: Chris Hunichen is a tournament high-roller promoting a $15k Gofundme for his family -- does this make any sense?

I see this trend everywhere and it makes me cringe. People asking for gofundme donations when I know they’re completely able to foot the bill. It’s $15k ffs to a guy who if even staked, plays high rollers and lives very well.

Daniels explanation for why he might do it makes no sense. When confronted with that situation, you’re either going to take my money or not, but I’m not posting a gofundme. It’s actually really bad business.

These guys play on stakes. It’s an investment when you stake one. They are saying I’m good enough to beat this game and you’re taking a shot they’re right. This dude isn’t 22. He’s pushing 40. When I see him asking for help to bury his father, my mind can only go a few places. He’s got some other addiction. He’s not very good at poker. He’s a scumbag flying on private planes and wants me to bury his dad.

I don’t want to be involved with that guy at all. Even if I get lucky and he dinks a tournament, he’s won a whole lot of tournaments, yet he can’t come up with $15k. Even if he dinks, do I get my money or end up having to make a thread exposing him in 2 years?

Like I did say before I admire Daniel. But I find when someone has to jump through hoops like creating a son that doesn’t exist and all these type of what if scenarios, they typically are trying to find a way to support a position they want to take. It was a real weird “what if” road Daniel took to his destination. To me it’s as if he wanted to take Huni’s side and then went backwards in justifying the take.

Quick story. Must of been close to 15 years ago. I was a political junkie and was watching the Senate Floor. (Yup). Funding for a DC (where the public schools are notoriously bad) voucher program was coming to an end. I think the Senate was just taken over by the Dems and of course they will always protect the Union.

Anyways all these Republican Senators come to the floor with personal stories about how well certain kids are doing in Charter Schools. No longer worried about safety and other stuff. It was clear the kids were doing better. They were apparently going to have to go back to the public school if they hadn’t graduated. There was no grandfather clause.

So we all know the Democrats were going to protect the union and this program would be squashed. After the Republicans made their plea the floor was silent for some time. Surely no one was going to speak from the Democrat side. What were they going to say? They couldn’t say we just do whatever it takes to protect the Union. They couldn’t argue the kids weren’t obviously doing better overall.

Well, eventually good ole Dick Durbin wanders out to the floor. A lawyer by trade. He made some kind of absurd convoluted argument. I don’t think he ever mentioned the union. What I do remember is one argument was that the Charter Schools didn’t require certain shop teachers to hold a Master’s degree. Yes Dick, send the kids back to the school with metal detectors because the guy who teaches kids welding didn’t go to school for 8 years. That guy clearly needed more time behind a desk and less time with the machines.

Anyways, thought that was interesting to share. It really showed me that people have a position in mind much of the time and the argument is simply a way to reach that position. The sillier/more convoluted the argument, the more likely that position is about something else.

Wait a minute. Does Chris Hunichen have a 401K that he could do a hardship withdrawal from? If he does have 401k, he should just borrow from that to help pay for his Father's funeral.
People paid thousands of dollars for the Fyre Festival only to end up living like Refugees! I feel sorry for them! How could anyone NOT feel sorry for them?

No and No. The funeral was a while ago. It was also just the reason to invoke sympathy and/or show hardship. The money was supposedly going to some kind of home repair that apparently was collateral. Plus Chris won 800K shortly after. That’s why I said he should have just offered to return the donations.

I know there is makeup and he probably sold some of himself. But this was the $2,500 Venom on ACR so I would imagine he would have at least of had 50 percent of himself. I would imagine he made a good chunk of dough there. He is also tweeting about chartering planes. Circumstances change quickly sometimes.

I was under the impression that his father died like two days ago and he was asking $15,000 to help give his Father a proper funeral and burial, which is why I questioned why he didn't use a 401K loan instead of begging random strangers for $15,000. The way you said it, I think Chris is a scumbag. I completely agree with you. Chris should have given back the money he won as donations. Reminds me of Everybody Hates Chris episode where Julius loans money to an Acquaintance. Acquaintance had someone who owed HER money. The person who she loaned money to paid her back in front of Julius and for some strange reason, she didn't pay back Julius with the money she had gotten from the guy she loaned money from. Julius looked understandably pissed like,"You should be paying me back with that money,!"

Huni should hire Rob Mercer, providing the nips have healed, to stake out the cage in Jacksonville and hound this guy. I’m sure Mercer can use the finders fee and he’s proven he knows how to get it done.

I love how they say “Unofficial” Final Table. Like we are waiting for the pre-tournament drug test results to come back to make sure no one is on PEDs.
