Matthew Perry's cause of death listed as deferred (Whatever that means but also read there were other circumstances..)

    https://twitter.com/FOX4/status/1718998863619448842

A preliminary report notes "other significant conditions" contributed to his death.

To the surprise of (almost) no one - yeah, hot tubs and pools don't kill, but drugs, particularly ketamine, do:

    https://www.wwnytv.com/2023/12/15/me...matthew-perry/

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Matthew Perry died from the acute effects of the anesthetic ketamine, according to the results of an autopsy on the 54-year-old “Friends” actor released Friday.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner said in the autopsy report that Perry also drowned in “the heated end of his pool,” but that it was a secondary factor in his Oct. 28 death, deemed an accident.

People close to Perry told investigators that he was undergoing ketamine infusion therapy, an experimental treatment used to treat depression and anxiety. But the medical examiner said the levels of ketamine in Perry’s body were in the range used for general anesthesia during surgery, and that his last treatment 1 1/2 weeks earlier wouldn’t explain those levels. The drug is typically metabolized in a matter of hours.

The report says coronary artery disease and buprenorphine, which is used to treat opioid use disorder, also contributed.

The amount of ketamine detected “would be enough to make him lose consciousness and lose his posture and his ability to keep himself above the water,” said Dr. Andrew Stolbach, a medical toxicologist with Johns Hopkins Medicine who reviewed the autopsy report at the request of The Associated Press.

“Using sedative drugs in a pool or hot tub, especially when you’re alone, is extremely risky and, sadly, here it’s fatal,” said Stolbach, who noted that both ketamine and buprenorphine can be used safely.

Re: the part about the level of drugs in his body being the amount used in general anesthesia, there's gotta at least be a chance this was a self-checkout deal...

He was worth $200M and it was growing due to his sitcom deal. I wonder who gets the cash since he was unmarried, no kids and parents are in their 80s.

Guy would have made a great member here.

    Oh well, RIP.

Suboxone/Subutex would have increased the effects of ketamine for sure.
PokerfraudAlert acknowledges that our message board is on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of Donkdown.com who's presence stretches back to that of Neverwinpoker and the Lithuanians. As such we acknowledge the great role that Tony G, Jewdonk, any many other Lithuanians have contributed to our community.

Yep this was a Heath Ledger and Michael Jackson type of expatriation with heart slow down drugs. These guys just start mixing hospital narcotics for whatever reason, I dunno. Like I said, he was probably on the death wagon anyway given he had COPD and emphysema.

He was wealthy beyond belief, be interesting to see who gets the cash.

You're right, he would have fit in great here. Maybe I can try to reach out to other fucked up celebrities and see if they have an interest in signing up before the inevitable OD.

The distribution of assets in such a case (where the deceased has no will, no spouse, and no children) is managed by the "intestate succession laws" where the deceased resided.

In this case, Matthew Perry lived in California, so we go by their laws. It is not clear if he had a will. If he did, then all of this discussion is moot. However, there is a decent chance he had no will, as many people who are single and childless do not, especially if they are not yet elderly.

In California, in the case of no will, intestate succession laws generally have this hierarchy for inheritance:

    1a) Spouse
    1b) Chiidren
    2) Parents
    3) Siblings
    4) Grandparents
    5) Aunts/uncles and nieces/nephews
    6) Cousins

In order to inherit via intestate succession, you must be alive, and you must not have intentionally caused the death of the individual.

Also, in the case of spouses, they automatically inherit 100% of community property. Regarding separate property, the spouse gets 50%, and the children split the other 50%.

With all of the relatives listed above, they must be blood relatives, with the exception of adoptions, at which point the person is treated equally to a blood relative. Half-siblings are treated the same as full siblings. However, aunts/uncles by marriage are not entitled to anything.

Interestingly, you must remain alive 120 hours after the person's death in order to receive an inheritance, under intestate succession.

In Matthew's case, he has living parents and 5 siblings. His parents would inherit everything, after a probate process. Were they not alive, each sibling would inherit 20%.

I am starting to think Matt had some drug issues:

Five arrests have been made amid a drug investigation into the death of “Friends” star Matthew Perry.

The Department of Justice said in a press conference Thursday morning that an investigation revealed a “broad underground criminal network,” including Perry’s assistant and doctors, who “took advantage” of the actor by selling him ketamine.

“This network included a live-in assistant, various go-betweens, two medical doctors and a major source of drug supply known as ‘The Ketamine Queen,'” said U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada, announcing the charges. “These defendants took advantage of Mr. Perry’s addiction issues to enrich themselves. They knew what they were doing was wrong. They knew what they were doing was risking great danger to Mr. Perry, but they did it anyways. In the end, these defendants were more interested in profiting off Mr. Perry than caring for his well being.”

I would actually stay up for PFA Radio if Druff could get on the 'The Ketamine Queen' to do a segment. That is must listen radio.

Yeah I knew they were using ketamine in small quantities to treat addiction, and I figured this was going to go the Elvis/prince/MJ route with rogue doctors and grifters.

Pretty dumb to supply drugs to a celebrity with addiction issues. If he/she dies as a result, you will 100% be investigated and charged for it.

Law enforcement had extra interest in solving this because of Perry's fame. Were he just a random rich dude who was using doctors and assistants to help him abuse ketamine, likely nothing would have happened.
