I woke up from a nap with left ear pressure. I also have a mild sore throat, but no other symptoms of illness. I at first attributed it to wax, and tried to peroxide both ears. Didn't help. Last year I had pain in one of my ears, and the peroxide did the trick. Not this time. However, this one is much more pressure and basically no pain, but it's REALLY annoying. I also can't hear out of that ear.

I have tried all of the suggestions I found online:

    - Taking a breath, holding my nose, and attempting to gently exhale through my nose

    - Yawning

    - Chewing gum

    - Sucking on a piece of candy

    - Screaming loudly

None of this shit worked. Ear still has a ton of pressure and won't release. Even tried nasal spray, again did not help.

It got me so frustrated that I had to take Xanax to calm down.

I am going to try to get an ENT appointment today, as I read they have tools they can use to clear up such pressure, but not sure if I can get in to one that fast, and also not sure if their tools will help.

I cannot stress how annoying this is. Has anyone else had this? What did you do to get rid of it?
I have that problem off and on with my right ear. It never goes back to 100%. Sometimes it feels 50% normal other days 75%. Right now my hearing is probably 75%. I gotta be honest, I just got used to it. I had an Urgent Care doctor take a look but never saw an ENT specialist. Curious to find out what they tell you.

I got into to see my GP yesterday and I don’t have any wax in my ear nor a perforated ear drum like I thought but diagnosed with an ear infection. I was prescribed an antibiotic/steroid ear drop called Ciprodex. Of course, no pharmacy in Vegas has it in stock so I had to wait for it to be ordered and just picked it up about an hour ago. In addition, my concierge doctor here in Vegas basically said it is impossible to get into see an ENT here, they called and got me an appointment for next week. A lot good that is going to be.

Iwoke up at 3:00 am feeling like my head was going to explode. I’ve been taking massive quantities of Tylenol and more importantly a sinus congestion reliever, I’m using Tylenol Sinus Severe. All the nose blowing and swallowing doesn’t do shit. The lady at the pharmacy told me to google “magic rice sock”.. here it is..

    Warm rice sock:

Put some rice into a clean tube sock until it’s halfway full and then tie its mouth to form a pouch.
Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of water over the sock pouch and microwave it for about a minute.
Check the temperature of the rice sock on your arm to make sure it’s not too hot.
Place the rice sock over the ear for a few minutes repeatedly, until the pouch loses its heat.

The warmth does help but no miracle cure. If you can figure something out..I would love to know but yea, I can relate and hope you feel better.
Good grief. You coulda hidden this story with a spoiler. Druff might have caught the same crud.

    get better quick.

It's back in almost full force again.

Going out now to buy decongestant and try that. Trying to get back into doctor too.

Cant do radio until this resolves.

I feel like an old person with bad hearing.

One thing I'll say is that there isn't pain. It's just bothersome pressure and hearing loss.

The right ear, which the doctor said looked clear, is now also starting to do this tonight. That's what's making me suspect it's congestion caused, even though I don't appear to have a cold, and my breathing is normal.

    To Pokehermaniac:

If it's an ear infection, antibiotics should fix it quickly. But it sounds like this might be more?

I have no signs of an ear infection. Upon inspection, the only issue the doctor saw in my left ear was a ton of wax. However, it's possible that was either a coincidence or a side effect of whatever is doing this to me.

I think we have different things.

I had 30 ear infections from age 0-12, but zero ever since. The last one I had was the worst one. I still remember it -- in Colorado Springs on a family trip in 1984.

This is all or part fiction.

It is inconceivable an ENT would attend to a blocked external ear canal and then stop. A surgeon would never be halted by ear wax consistency nor "circular ear drums".

Middle ear congestion is often overlooked but never by a surgeon.

A tympanogram is a quick and easy test which reveals the function of an eardrum. This is done without fail.

You claim this specialist agreed that you should continue to flush an ear canal he has just cleared?

    Bullshit.

If your ear is still blocked after wax removal then the problem is most likely on the other side of the ear drum. Your ears drain through your Eustachian tube..that may also be blocked causing the fluid to be pushing against your ear drum causing pressure and hearing loss. A lot of times the Eustachian tube is blocked from swollen tonsils, adenoids your throat. You did say you had a sore throat so that may be causing the blockage since the wax removal did not resolve your issue. Just a guess.. and my ear is still blocked too…

ciprodex is god. there is an rx eye drop that works the same if you can't get the name brand ciprodex.

Well, believe it or not, this might be COVID.

Recall I had a very mild version of COVID in early-mid June at WSOP. It's now been over 6 months since then.

I went to The Bike late Friday night, and stayed a very long time.

I went to sleep, but woke up with the worst diarrhea I've had in years, aside from when I intentionally brought it on for my colonoscopy. I blamed it on the Bike food, believing I got food poisoning, especially because the burger I received was a bit pink but I said fuck it and ate it anyway.

However, the diarrhea went away quickly and on Monday, the ear pressure issue showed up. It was preceded by a very mild sore throat which quickly vanished, and the pressure/hearing loss was only in the left ear. As I mentioned, a massive amount of wax was found in that ear, and indeed the doctor cleaning it out improved (but didn't eliminate) the problem.

However, a few hours later, it came back. Last night I started noticing the other ear getting it, and also noticed I was feeling cold and unusually tired. I did not have a fever. Today I noticed both ears now have that same pressure/hearing issue, even though the right one didn't have a wax problem. So now I think this is illness related. I also now have some joint pain in my hands, which often occurs when I have a virus.

I actually hadn't had a cold in many months. My last viral illness was the COVID back in early June. I somehow faded several colds my girlfriend and Ben had during that time, and also played a bunch of live poker, also not getting sick. It's possible this is a cold or flu, but also possible it's COVID.

I took a home test and got a VERY faint pink line -- so faint to where it's hard to tell if it's COVID or just a failtest.

I have scheduled a PCR test for tomorrow afternoon. It is possible that all of this is related to COVID. Believe it or not, if I have it, I probably didn't catch it from the Bike. My girlfriend said she felt like she had COVID 6 days ago, but the home test was negative, so she dismissed it. I might have caught it from her.

I do not have a fever, but my head has a stuffy feeling to it. Smell and taste are normal, but I didn't lose them in June from my first COVID bout. I put it at 50-50 whether I have COVID right now.

    Hmmm...

Very sorry for this latest turn but would you care to address your previous statements re: the Ear, Nose and Throat visit/treatment.

Everything you reported, including the Dr.'s advice, was glaringly incorrect. It was not even close to what a patient would/should hear from a specialist.

    Very sad Todd.

The whole poker fraud stance of yours is weakened by this unusual story. Harmless fun, fine.........
    just admit it.

    Bullshit.
What part is distressing to you?

The specialist took out a lot of wax from the left ear, and said that "99%" was out, but I could use peroxide and a wash to get the rest of it if I wanted.

I'm not sure what a tympanogram is, but I was actually told that they wanted me to do some kind of hearing test in a different appointment before seeing the doctor. I declined this because I wasn't concerned about losing my hearing -- I was concerned about a blockage in my ear! My hearing was fine 2 days prior to the visit. I didn't feel like wasting time and money on a useless hearing test, because I do not think this is a hearing issue -- bad hearing is just a side effect of whatever is happening.

Anyway this is all probably moot because it looks like a virus is doing it to me. I could actually have a coronavirus which isn't COVID. Many colds in the winter are coronaviruses.

Understand, I have referred many customers/patients to ENT's for these very issues. A blocked external ear does not affect middle ear pressure. Yes, a specialist will attend to the external ear initially but they are well aware that pressures are related to the middle ear.

A specialist will attend to the external ear first but will always administer a simple pressure test on the eardrum which speaks to your being there.

A blocked external ear canal is nothing to such a professional. You would never leave a specialist's office without a simple test identifying the presence of fluid or some other middle ear disfunction

Re-reading your post you said "before seeing the doctor".

    This I believe.
You had your ear canal cleared by a nurse and bailed. The test you avoided was not a hearing test but one that would identify the cause of your discomfort.

    This does make sense. Pennies
I am happy to say this is not a fraudulent thread. This is one man's fear. Not unlike George Costanza

Todd..have you got your pcr results? As I stated, I got the ear pressure and then ear ache right at the end of having Covid. I didn’t think it was a result of Covid and then remembered my doctor said the virus could cause inflammation in the upper respiratory tract. I just googled it and found this..

After reading the article it does appear it can be related to Covid. Thanks for figuring this out for me. My ear is still clogged but pain is gone. Hope you feel better soon…

Ok buddy log off. You're Mr. Infection from early years. Have you learned nothing? Whether it's Covid or habitual thumb sucking it remains a middle ear congestion/infection.

You're an idiot. Todd's an idiot. Sanimar's an idiot. Fucking idiots

Doing PCR test tomorrow. Did not suspect COVID until late this afternoon, and now it's too late to get a PCR today.

Oh, and drunkles, I did see the doctor. Go back and read my 2 posts about that visit. I just declined a separate appointment for a hearing test because it would be a pain in the ass and a waste of money. I am not worried about my hearing.

Believe it or not, it actually feels better to have both ears clogged today than just one of them clogged earlier this week. The differential was a killer. Now that they're both clogged, it's something I'm used to from colds in the past, even if this one is COVID and not a cold.

I will take another home test tomorrow and also do a PCR to be sure. Still no fever.

After reading the article it does appear it can be related to Covid. Thanks for figuring this out for me. My ear is still clogged but pain is gone. Hope you feel better soon…

Fine. No mistake you are a liar. No ENT is worried about your hearing initially. They are there to prevent permanent hearing loss. A hearing test is an afterthought for them.

To be clear, the good Dr. who irrigated your ear canal said "it looks ok, go ahead a rinse all day."

Never mind the laughs, such instructions would constitute malpractice if your middle ear occlusion erupted in a nasty infection.

I gave this ass an out. He ignored it. Todd is a fraud or extremely ignorant.

Imagine, Todd has sourced an ear, nose and throat specialist who has an open book. Fantasy #1.

Todd waved enough cash for an Otolaryngologist to push aside real time patients for someone with an unseen condition.
    Fantasy #2

The well paid Otolaryngologist returned the favour by doing the least he or she could and sent Todd away wondering.

It is hilarious. This is how far people go when caught in a lie

Are you really being serious or just trolling? Your replies are nutty as hell.
