So they claim they know who killed the women.... and he's dead.
Adam Pinkusiewicz, age 44, was known to be near the campsite where Kylen Schulte and Crystal Turner were shot dead. He had previously worked at McDonald's in Moab, while Turner also worked there.
The day after their murder, Pinkusiewicz aburptly left Moab, not even picking up his final paycheck.
He then told someone else that he "killed two women in Utah", and gave some details regarding the killing which weren't made public. He then killed himself days later.
The motive for the killings was not known. However, this leads me to believe that the police knew all along that he did it, and felt no urgency to announce it, because they knew he was dead. Remember -- in August 2021, the police announced that the killer had already left the area (true) and that the public wasn't in danger (also true, because he was dead). I had always wondered how they could have confidently said this, if they had no idea who did it.
So why are they only announcing this now, 9 months later?
I believe they strongly suspected Pinkusiewicz, but since he was dead, there was no one to question or arrest, nor was there any urgency to name him. It seems to be a recent development that this contact of his came forward with the info he gave them, which verified that he was the one who did it.
If you google it, you will find that back in November 2021, people in Moab were complaining that they were trying to get police to investigate Pinkusiewicz (who wasn't announced as a person of interest, nor was he said to be dead), but they weren't interested. People were getting pissed at the police's lackadaisical approach to Pinkusiewicz's possible involvement. Now it makes more sense -- they knew he had already croaked!
The November 2021 incidents spawned from a McDonald's manager remembering Pinkusiewicz and Crystal Turner (the older of the two women) having arguments on the job. The manager remembered Pinkusiewicz bolting town, and told someone, who then went to police about it. At the time of the murders (August 2021), apparently the manager didn't think much of Pinkusiewicz no-showing work and failing to pick up his check, as Turner hadn't worked there in awhile. About three months later, he put it together and got suspicious.
Pinkusiewicz's name was not made public in any news media until mid-May 2022 when police named him as the likely killer.
Very bizarre. Small police departments really suck at this type of thing.
