BUMP
The matter of the murdered lesbians is not yet solved, but there is new info.
- The "killer left the area" statement from August 2021 is believed by some to be a lie told by police. There are suspicions that police were under pressure to make that statement, in order to prevent mass cancellations near the end of peak tourist season that summer. Indeed, police have never stated how they determined that the killer had left the area, or that the public wasn't in danger.
- The murder occurred on August 14. A private investigator, hired by the Schulte family (parents of the younger girl), found that law enforcement obtained an audio recording of gunshots at 11:35am on August 14, with screams as the gunshots went off. The police then confirmed that they had such a recording of gunshots, and it was from August 14 -- the same morning the two women were last seen alive. The PI said the recording was at 11:35am MDT. The police would not confirm or deny that.
- A 27-year-old man was stopped by Moab police on August 17, three days after the presumed date of the murder. This man was acting extremely strange for someone who had simply been pulled over for speeding, so much that the veteran officer decided not to write him a ticket, but instead observe him. The man was brought in for questioning and "cleared", but he didn't have a real alibi for August 14, and he admitted he knew Kylen Schulte from the bar she frequented. He denied killing the women, and insisted he didn't even know they were a couple. He was believed to be mentally ill, and slept in his car -- sometimes fairly close to where the murders occurred. However, when this story came to light a month ago, police quickly issued a statement that this unidentified man was not a suspect. One woman told police that this guy frequently made advances toward women, and made them feel uncomfortable. Hmmm....
- A cell phone was found at the campsite where the two women were staying, but it didn't belong to either of them. It's not clear what was found on the phone.
I still think this weird homeless guy should be a suspect. How can they rule him out if he had no alibi? Seems like a lot of incompetence at Moab PD.
