Puerto Vallarta Expats for a Few Months?

Anybody else starting to think it might be a good idea to go on "vacation" for a few months, in case someone over there gets interested in hitting the button? Puerto Vallarta? I am considering it. I am talking with some of my friends about it. I have a few months off from work and my wife works remotely...

No button is going to be hit until there's a big run-up of escalations where neither side backs down.

Mutually assured destruction is a powerful concept.

We went through this same shit in the '60s (which I obviously wasn't around for) and the '80s (which I remember). The '60s were worse, as there were many people building fallout shelters and believing we were a hair away from getting nuked.

I feel this has lost impact over time, because the vast majority of adults from those days are now dead.

What if the escalation happens over 48 hours? What if something chaotic happens?

There is no way that anyone in the USA right now is under imminent threat of being nuked in the next few months......if that's what you're suggesting

I would agree with mutually assured destruction but Putin is completely deranged and capable of anything despite dire consequences.

Yeah, Mexico. Maybe you can take in a soccer game.

This Queretaro match. The most violent stuff you will ever see on Twitter. The videos are endless and each worse than the last.

The police absolutely ignored the violence. The Governor is denying there were any deaths. I haven’t heard shit form ESPN grade outlets.

You can go down this rabbit hole at your own risk.

I travel to a lot of third world destinations but Mexico, that’s a pass.

Putin isn't a terrorist who is going to die or allow his own country to be annihilated for the "cause".

He sensed weakness from the US and the rest of the West, and invaded Ukraine. At very worst, if the invasion is a fail and Ukraine somehow beats them back, he could deploy small nukes against Ukraine. But that's where it's going to stop -- and it's questionable whether it would ever get that far.

Even if the US established a no-fly zone and engaged with Russian fighters, there still wouldn't be a nuclear war between Russia and the US.

For Russia to nuke us, we'd either have to nuke them first, or attempt to invade the Russian homeland. Neither are happening, obviously.

Ukraine picked the wrong horse to back, and dug themselves into this hole.

America doesn't give a shit about Ukraine. We'll never directly shoot Russian planes from the sky. We will, however, keep the Ukrainians stocked up for prolonged conflict.

    "someone", as in Ukraine, maybe.

Russia ain't gonna nuke the US over a no-fly zone, because they will get nuked back.

As I said, I find the probability very low that Russia would nuke the US, provided the US doesn't attack their homeland.

Honestly the closest we got to being nuked by Russia was during the Cuban Missile Crisis, but this occurred before most people here were born (including me), and even the oldest members here were quite young when it happened in 1962.

Take if from me, Mexico a shit hole. I have been there countless times. Once glorious places like Acapulco , Tulum and Cancun are not safe anymore either. When I go to Playa de Carmen, I don't leave the Mayakoba compound, as there are shootings in the clubs. Los Cabos is still safe, though.

Still, San Francisco is worse. Mexicans still use toilets and don't shit in the middle of the street.

I was in grade school in San Francisco from 1959 to 1964. There were nuclear fallout shelters-and signs pointing to where they were-us kids were taught where they were. In school we had regular drills where we climbed under our desks and stuck our heads between our legs. With us kids the joke was "climb under the desk, stick your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye."

We studied current events at that age and us kids were well aware of the cold war between the US and the USSR.

That's funny. There were some remnants of this in the late '70s and early '80s when I was in grade school, and I made the same joke.

There was a guide on the wall which had instructions for different disasters -- earthquake, fire, bomb, etc.

For the "bomb" portion, they had instructions such as the ones you mentioned -- keep your head between your legs, stay under the desk, do not look up, etc.

I wrote in "nuclear" over the "bomb" heading, and then I added one more instruction, in the same format:

    • Kiss your ass goodbye!

The kids laughed when they saw it, but they never knew I did it. I guess that exact joke with those exact same words was made years before I was born.

What gets lost by Druff & Co is that Mickey was as far removed from nuclear bombs actually being dropped on cities as we are from Tiffany Michelle being the last woman standing at the 2008 WSOP.

Nuclear war was a very real and personal experience then. It’s impossible for us to appreciate that era. Must have been something. Warheads shipped to Cuba. It had to be crazy to live thru.

To Druff “duck and cover” was a joke. In ‘59/‘60 it was as real and as recent as it gets.

History tends to repeat. People tend to forget. That’s why history repeats.

    yup exactly thats my point

west starts a no fly zone and then russia drops one on ukraine

so belarus prob gets one in retaliation and then shit escalates real fast

but i dont think any of this will happen cos the west isnt that stupid to setup a no fly zone

    Why would Israel do this?
They don't want Putin sending nukes their way.

Russia just announced they will target weapon shipments going into Ukraine.
Just in time for the $6 to $9 billion in weapons approved for Ukraine.

    What could possibly go wrong...
    Russia can't even have a Mcdonald's.

If things get just a lil bit worse how could he not press the red button.

Israel's advice to Zelensky is the best solution, these fuckin Ukrainians need to quit playing Rambo.
