408 got me exactly the same way back in Feb 2011. I won a DD tourney, and got a stake offer shortly after. Next thing I knew I had creditors calling me from the Bay Area, had weird open accounts on my credit report where I had a judgement filed from an extended stay motel in Northern California, and every time I Googled my name I was mentioned as a sexual predator.
About the only good thing to come from it is I get a couple of these bad boys in my e-mail every week. Small solace, but good deals.
