Not true. I would be a Republican even if poor.
There are very few issues where I agree with the Democrats. Been that way my entire life.
The one issue where I was on the Dems' side in my earlier years was censorship. The religious right wanted to censor things due to "obscenity", and the Dems were very pro free speech and anti-censorship. I was one of the rare free speech Republicans circa 1990, and I took shit from fellow conservatives at the time. Now, 3 decades later, the party has caught up. It's now Republicans who are pro free speech, and the Dems have gone the other way, now wanting to censor so-called "hate speech". So even on that position, my party came to me.
There are some areas I don't fully agree with the GOP, and others where I think both parties suck (healthcare is one of them -- though I'm closer to the GOP side).
But it's extremely easy for me to vote Republican, given the alternative.
