BTW, this is how out of touch today's Democrats are regarding the violent crime issue.

Here's an article from Jean Guerrero of the LA Times: https://news.yahoo.com/guerrero-wake...110012240.html (note that there's no paywall, as Yahoo reposted it)

The title of the article seems to make sense: "Wake up, Democrats. Don't let Republicans own the issue of violent crime"

That title is actually correct. Democrats do need to "wake up" and tackle the violent crime issue, or they will get their lunch eaten at each election whenever crime is a big issue. After the 1994 midterm beatdown, where again crime was a major concern, Democrats DID wake up, and they turned things around. However, they woke up by supporting anti-crime measures typically only championed by Republicans, including the now-maligned-by-the-left 1994 crime bill. This bill was signed by Clinton in September 1994 as a last-ditch attempt to prevent a midterm beatdown. It was too late, but for a few years, Democrats were a lot warmer to cracking down on violent criminals with stiffer sentences and more cops on the street.

It's been 28 years since 1994. A lot has changed, and Democrats are softer on crime than ever. They have been attempting to hide the ball for years, with misleading statements seeking to avoid blame for their increasingly weak stance on dealing with violent criminals, and the consequences borne from it:

CLAIM: "The violent crime crisis is an invention of Fox News and the GOP propaganda machine. Violent crime is far less than it was 20 years ago."

FACT: There was a 23-year trend of declining violent crime from 1991 to 2014. Then, after the Ferguson riots, Democrats and the media took an anti-cop and anti-law-and-order stance, which changed everything, and caused the trend to reverse. Violent crime is now substantially higher than it was in 2013, and it is especially increasing quickly in the inner cities, and disproportionately affecting minorities.

CLAIM: "Democrats are not soft on violent crime. That is a false Republican talking point, and there is no evidence to show this."

FACT: Every single tough-on-crime measure -- longer sentences, mandatory minimum sentencing, three strikes, death penalty, tougher parole requirements, longer sentencing for repeat offenders, increased police presence, etc -- are supported by almost all Republicans and opposed by almost all Democrats. Every soft-on-crime measure -- cashless bail, compassionate release for dying murderers, attempted rehabilitation for repeat sex offenders, and defunding police in favor of social programs, are supported almost exclusively by Democrats and opposed by almost every Republican. If you are a violent criminal, Democratic crime policies are very beneficial to you.

CLAIM: "We have a mass incarceration problem in the US. This is the Republican war on people of color."

FACT: While the US has far more incarceration than other first world countries, it's because the US has a lot more crime than other first world countries. The number of people incarcerated for long periods of time for minor crimes is very low, and in fact we have the opposite problem -- career criminals repeatedly getting back out after serving a few months. Mass incarceration is not a problem if the people being incarcerated really committed the crimes, and were sentenced fairly.

CLAIM: "Social programs to stop violent crime before it starts are what we need, not more police."

FACT: This was already tried from the '60s through '80s, and failed miserably. While this could be tried again, it should never be in place of strong policing, which was proven to work from 1991-2014.

CLAIM: "Gun control would solve the violent crime problem."

FACT: It would make it worse. Criminals would get their guns underground, and they would know law-abiding people can't defend themselves.

Anyway, the article I linked makes the case that social programs and gun control are the solution to our violent crime issues, and Democrats shouldn't let Republicans own the message about violent crime. LOL at that. People are fed up with criminals taking over their cities, and then getting released immediately on cashless bail when they commit crimes. They're tired of woke DAs who openly state they won't prosecute entire classes of crimes.

As long as Democrats remain in denial about the violent crime issue, Republicans will keep winning.

If you want to make a Democrat's head spin, ask them, "Will you openly state on social media that you support tough sentencing for repeat violent criminals and repeat sex offenders?" Then watch al the excuses start.

I also enjoy asking left wing feminists if they want that they want serial rapists imprisoned for life. And when they say yes, I ask them why they vote for Democratic candidates who are almost all opposed to this. Heads explode.

I also enjoy asking Democrats why they don't support long sentencing for violent criminals, given that the victims of such crimes are disproportionately black and Hispanic. No answer for that one, either.

Democrats have a very hard time rationally explaining their stance on violent crime.
