water, a way to filter water, something to sleep on, sleep in, a tarp, a way to make fire with redundancies and a way to keep the starters dry if need be, first aid kit that includes a way to stop heavy bleeding, a knife, a hatchet, poncho.
if you're worried about weirdos or animals hurting you a firearm could help
a cell phone and a gps would be nice in case you got hurt or lost, but no one reading this is going to go without their phone LOL
if i was camping in my car or taking my car to remote places i would get a secondary battery before i bought any luxuries. you may never need it if you're not charging a bunch of shit off of it like a generator, but it would be awesome to have it if you needed
if you're taking luxuries with you then they make machines that repel mosquitos and apparently some of them work well

My ideal SUV trip is- cooler with drinks, chicken and salad, blankets in the SUV to sleep, firearms, portable DVD player, firewood, lantern, multitool, folding chairs and flashlights. My ideal trip wouldnt include a whole lot of stuff just for an overnight trip alone or with a girlfriend. Also include a portable battery generator for the electric blanket if we go in the winter. Its its really cold outside, probably just bring a pre-cooked meal with us.
What I would like to do is the overnight in the Mojave desert on the CA side and then in the morning drive to a hotel in Primm, Nevada for breakfast and then a shower and stay a second night there or just drive into Vegas.
When it comes to the camping stuff above, I'm there just for the simplicity, fun experience and not the super technical stuff and gadgets. I dont believe in bringing too much junk and items, simple is best.

Its just my thing, I love it, cant explain it, I love being out in the middle of no where and love the danger factor of it too. I would love to sleep in my SUV and hear the wind howling outside and rain drops coming down on the roof. Snow is nice too.

These posts about sleeping in your car and peeing in public at night with your flashlight just serve to trigger feelings of empathy for the LA homeless and other woke emotions that I struggle mightily to stay vigilant against.

I could get an RV as well, those Sprinter vans are pretty nice with a bathroom, kitchen, etc. But even I get a jew wallet when I see the price tag of $100,000 + for those. Me posting about SUV camping here is not looking for approval or validation, just sharing something I want to do in the future. The OP was about equipment and gadgets.
Never went camping a day in my life and I was a Boy Scout.
My hunch would be that Jews don’t camp either. They already had their fill of the camping in the desert thing from what I read in the Old Testament.
I do have a multi-tool that I carry every day of my life. See it, fix it. This one hasn’t been lost in more than a decade. My model is discontinued. If I saw your post before Christmas I would have been inspired to buy a couple Wingman 14 tool for gifts.

Just so were clear, I’m NOT an expert in any topics listed in this thread. I’m just an enthusiast and geek when it comes to the desert, gadgets guns and gear.
Props to this Facebook friend based in California City, CA who does alot of "desert running" in her Jeep with her BF and cat. She did some shooting in her last adventure.

One thing is to find a great area with views and just hang or wander around. Here's an area close to LV. Drive to ridge lines in vicinity. Grand Canyon to the south and east. Virgin River flows into Lake Mead to the east. Good spot for an
east coaster to experience some mountain driving, red sandstone and typical basin desert terrains. For more excitement wake up around 4am (or stay up), shoot and kill any cow in the area, carve out the sirloins and tenderloins.
Head back to town with your prizes b4 the sun comes up.
