These shutdowns are really unfair to the US population. There should really be something in place to penalize politicians for allowing this to happen -- and I'm not talking about financial penalties.
If they have to occur, they should be structured in a way to where only "long term" services (where a shutdown for a short period of time won't have a noticeable affect) are shuttered.
For example, the National Parks thing is bullshit.
It probably isn't affecting anyone reading this post.
However, if you were unlucky to schedule your expensive vacation around visiting National Parks this week, guess what? Now you're screwed, and probably out thousands of dollars.
I had a "National Parks" trip this past July, and I would have been furious if this shutdown happened then. I would have basically had to eat like $2600 in airfare, as well as had all my time planning the vacation completely wasted.
What does this say to people coming from around the world to visit our National Parks?
It says, "Fuck off. Don't come to America as a tourist."
They are saving very little money shutting down the National Parks, yet the impact on travelers scheduled to visit is huge.
The fault in this is on both sides of the aisle, by the way.
If you think that would have pissed you off I would recommend never going to France or Greece.
The whole thing is bullshit anyway. This is the equivalent to the local school saying they are going to cancel the Football season or other associated sports. It gets everyone fired up and in the end all it would save is $10K in coaches fees when the school has a $500K "budget shortfall". Nobody freaks out when they have to not hire a Spanish teacher assistant.
You want to save some real money shut down the Military and stop sending out Social Security and Welfare checks.
I still wouldn't want to live anywhere else despite retarded government ways of thinking and shady characters but:

Back on Obamacare for just a second. Only in Cali.

California's health insurance exchange vastly overstated the number of online hits it received Tuesday during the rollout of Obamacare.
State officials said the Covered California website got 645,000 hits during the first day of enrollment, far fewer than the 5 million it reported Tuesday.
The state exchange had cited the 5 million figure as a sign of strong consumer interest and a major reason people had so much difficulty using its $313-million online enrollment system.Howard said the revised Web traffic still represents a huge response. He said the number of unique online visitors Tuesday was 514,000 and the state received 19,000 calls.![]()
"Air Force-Navy & Army-Boston College games officially approved by Secretary of Defense, will be played Saturday."
Who cares about the serious issues when all that really matters is football! It's serious business and there is no shutting it down. Ever.
Heres a fucked up proof the government just operates on funny money. Ok there is no budget hence things are shut down YET they now have more security and shit up at monuments in DC then are normally present when they were
"Open to the public" If that isnt the definition of Government stupidity I dont know what is and where in the budget is this stupidity being paid for obviously we need to start there with budget cuts to save money. I mean God forbid people actually go to an open area location and walk up the steps at the Lincoln Memorial when the government is shut down.. Seriously WTF..
