Apparently the shooter had an rifle pointed through a fence covered in brush when Trump moved up the 5th hole. The Secret Service spotted him and began firing, guy took off but was captured. Ryan Wesley Routh is the guy's name, 58 years old. Apparently he would have had a clear sight line to Trump if not caught ahead, about 300-500 yards away.

I suspect this guy had planned this for a long time... (maybe not the exact date, but an attempt sometime when Trump was golfing at this particular club) perhaps even before the July attempt in PA. He probably knew the area well, and just because the golf round wasn't on Trump's schedule, there are still likely obvious clues that he's there if you pay enough attention.
