WSOP.com shakes up rewards program -- now you earn Caesars tier credits for WSOP.com play

I was just complaining recently that there is some weird hypocrisy in that Caesars hosts see you as "not playing" if you stay at one of their properties and play on wsop.com instead of their casino.

This is despite the fact that an active player can generate thousands in rake for them during one stay.

I'm not sure if that will change, but something else related has changed.

Before, WSOP.com did "status matching". That is, if you earned various statuses on WSOP.com, they would match your Caesars Total Rewards status to it. This would occur at Platinum, Diamond, and Seven Stars. Alternately, you could "back match" your existing Total Rewards status on WSOP.com before you even play there. Basically you would get the higher of the two statuses, but you would have to request this.

WSOP.com has something called APPs. You are given an APP for each 50 cents you pay in rake at WSOP.com.

However, prior to now, you would not earn tier credits from WSOP.com play. So, for example, if you earned 300,000 APPs on WSOP.com, this would NOT affect your Total Rewards tier points or status at all, aside from being guaranteed to be at least Diamond.

Now it's different. There is no more matching. Instead, you earn 1 tier point for each APP you earn.

This means you can earn Total Rewards Seven Stars by simply raking $75,000 on WSOP.com, and you never have to play a single penny in Caesars casinos. (I'm sure the hosts will LOVE players like this (cough)... but that's a different story for a different time.)

    Here are the details: http://www.wsop.com/promotions/trconnect-2015/nv/

    Here is one weird part:

To become Seven Stars in Total Rewards, you need to earn 150,000 Tier Credits between January 1st 2015 and December 31st 2015. If you earn 120,000 APPs online and earn 30,000 Tier Credits offline then this will give you a total of 150,000 Total Rewards Tier Credits and you will becomes Seven Stars in Total Rewards. However, this will not make you a Seven Star on WSOP.com. For existing players to become Seven Stars on WSOP.com, you’ll need to earn 400,000 APPs exclusively on WSOP.com.
    What?!

As usual, WSOP.com is confusing as all hell.

I think they're trying to say that they no longer match Seven Stars status to WSOP.com, which sucks. That gave me 30% rakeback instantly.

So what do I get matched to now as a Total Rewards Seven Stars player? Nothing? That would suck if true. I am going to e-mail Seth Palansky for clarification and report back.

PFA user Nikki messaged me and theorized the following:

WSOP.com is still likely matching Seven Stars earned in the casino, but if you earn Total Rewards Seven Stars through WSOP.com (or partially through it), then you don't get WSOP.com as well.

    Confusing?

You bet. But I have a feeling she's right.

I think their rationale is that it takes 400,000 APPs to make Seven Stars on WSOP.com, and yet you earn Total Rewards Seven Stars from just 150,000 APPs. So they are trying to maintain the 400,000 requirement for WSOP.com Seven Stars, while allowing you to still earn Total Rewards Seven Stars for only 150,000.

But this is not only confusing, but it's potentially contradictory.

What if you earn 1 APP on WSOP.com (translating to 1 tier point) and 149,999 tiers playing in the casino. So that wouldn't get you WSOP.com Seven Stars, but earning all 150,000 in the casino would? That seems silly. And what if you then earn 1 more point in the casino, making it 1 on WSOP.com and 150,000 in the casino. NOW would you qualify for WSOP.com Seven Stars?

I think they might be trying to say that you can't get WSOP.com Seven Stars unless you either:

    1) Earn at least 150,000 tier points in the casino
    -or-
    2) Earn 400,000 APPs on WSOP.com

    What a mess.

What's also amazing, also pointed out by Nikki, is that you'd think it would be the other way around.

You would think they would be "tighter" about giving out Total Rewards Seven Stars (which has some substantial value to it) than WSOP.com Seven Stars (which just gets you 30% rakeback instead of 20%).

But noooo.. somehow they make it much easier to use WSOP.com to earn Total Rewards Seven Stars than their own internal Seven Stars level.

I got confused the minute I tried to read this thread and a lot of times I would try to figure it out but since I can't play there I'll save my energy on other things.

You have to love how they want to confuse people in a tricky way and some people will definitely get pissed off after they misinterpret the wording.
