    sox/porcello agree to 4yr 80mil extension..lulz

    lol.

    this is awful.

obv the sox are thinking he turned a corner last year, which he did. but this is crazy money for a pitcher that is likely to pitch to a 4/4.5 ERA in the AL east than one to pitch to a 3/3.5 ERA.

i realize the sox are banking on the next 4 as prime years, but for quite a few young pitchers that enter the league at 20 and shoulder a 150-200 ip load from the get go,..most don't seem to have that trending up career years....and porcello never has had a high SO rate.

imo the sox are paying 20mil per yr for a #3/4 pitcher w/o even seeing him face east teams like he will...there was no need to lock him up...you could have had him for this or less at the end of the year..

    stupid. just plain stupid.

I'm not going to sit here and tell you I'm thrilled with this deal. That said take a look at what James Shields signed for this offseason. Id rather they take a stab on a 26 year old.

The rotation is in shambles and you are the boston Red Sox. If that means paying your third starter $20M then so be it.

The Royals just signed Yordano Ventura for 5 years, $23 million TOTAL. Any other contract pales in comparison. As early as next year or the year after this might be the most absurd cheap contract in MLB history. But this is what the Royals do somehow. Last year they signed the best catcher in baseball, Sal Perez, for 5 years, $7 million TOTAL!! Let those contracts sink in.

The league should be very afraid
It's hilarious that we as a society think everyone can be a dr, a lawyer, an engineer. Some people are just fucking stupid. Why can't we just accept that?

Ventura and Owens are the same age. Ventura has proven it. Ventura threw up zeroes in game 6 of the World Series facing elimination. Please don't imply Henry Owens can touch Ventura's jockstrap

Right, I know every site says he is young. But if we got a hold of his real birth certificate it would say 29

Based on what? I've never heard that rumor. Just because he's Latin? Is David Ortiz 50? Have you saw Ventura? He looks like he's 15. He'd be the youngest looking 29 year old ever

Your sports analysis is always so spot on. Tebow is God, etc

Everyone falls in love with prospects. I don't see it China. Tall 6'7" Lefty. Two pitch guy. Mediocre 88-91 fastball & a changeup. Working on a curve. This isn't big league stuff - yet anyway.

What is wrong with this guys velocity? He a tall lefty and that can be hard to pick up in AAA. In the show these guys will sort him out after a couple of looks.

Iggy is god. Prima donna shortstop. He was so cocky in Boston - I think the players kinda hated the rookie. Love that! He backed it up IMO.

Boegarts vs Iggy is no contest.

So much to watch if you go to a Tigers game, eh?

Apples and dump trucks. All this did was buy out his arbitration years. If he was a free agent next year it would have been 6/150.

Sorry Willie, but Yadier Molina is on the decline.

Just 18 extra base hits in 277 AB, and only 2 of those are HR.

In 2012 he socked 22 HR and hit .315.

I actually want him to do well, because he's on one of my fantasy teams (and has been since '12), but this year he's unimpressive.

Two best offensive catchers this year are Buster Posey and Yasmani Grandal.

NL bias much? Heard of a guy named Stephen Vogt? He's head and shoulders above Grandal this year. Salvador Perez? Id take him over Grandal this year. I mean I know he's a Dodger and all, but have a little perspective when you make posts like this like they are just fact. Hell Brian McCann is having a very similar year to Grandal. Grandal trails all of these guys as well as Russell Martin and Derek Norris in WAR. Derek Norris leads Grandal in every single offensive category except avg.

    Porcello is the full bumB.

TB Rays got a couple month look at him and seemingly had no problem letting the door hit him in the ass on the way out.

And fwiw Steven Vogt is the 2nd best offensive C behind Posey
