Here we go again: Money stolen from hotel room at EPT event

    http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/29...malta-1522301/

I booked 10 days to stay at Hilton Malta through EPT travel at €250/night. Whilst there I ate room service every day had 5+ massages, drank their €10 beer and ate their €4 kit Kat crunches!! and at the end of the trip paid around 2k in fees for all of the above.

Half way through the trip I went for a massage and left do not disturb on my door as I didn't need the room cleaned. I signed the massage on my room and came back and was surprised the room was cleaned. Later that night (2-3 hours) room service came and i looked for money to give a tip. The money next to my bed had now gone.

I was in the middle of a session so kept playing. It was late when I finished and no managers on site. The next day I went to the desk in the morning explained the situation and asked to speak to a manager. I was told the manager would call me within 30 minutes. I was playing EPT main event but said is wait 30 minutes to speak. 90 minutes later no phone call. I had to go.

I went back at the first break and spoke to somebody at reception. They told me they would look into it. I went back the next day and still no resolution but they told me they would fix it. I went back the next day and they showed me the locks who had been in when etc. There was 2 different cleaning people going into the room whilst I was having a massage. I explained again but no resolution. They kept telling me they would get back to me and their security manager was working on it.

Last day was Saturday. I went again and expressed the importance. The security manager came and said he wouldn't be able to fix this as the cleaners weren't in and he had been on holiday that week. This was probably the biggest week of he year so far and lots of money coming from the casino which was next door etc. Seems weird but ok.

I tweeted to epttravel that his wasn't acceptable. The security manager refused to do anything and had a really bad attitude. Epttravel came to the hotel immediately and arranged a meeting with a a manger who was too busy to see me previously.

He apologised to me and said he would have fixed it earlier but he only person who can see the lock codes was the security manager. His was his very first line to me and was bull****. I had been shown hear 2 days previously by somebody who wasn't senior. I told him I didn't want any more lies and wouldn't speak to people who open an exchange with lies. epttravel were very sympathetic and agreed that it had been terrible service. I was told this would be fixed and refunded by Monday.

They accused me initially of spending his money on the massage but I signed it on the room. They were saying I must have spent it on dinner but i had dinner in my room and signed for it.

I get a call 4 days later and the security manager tells me they spoke to the cleaners and they said hey didn't take the money and thus they would be not following up. But if I wanted help contacting the police then they would help with that.

They had told me throughout the week previously to leave it with them and then they would fix it. I leave the country then they call me saying to call the police if I want anything.

The amount stolen was less than €1000 but substantial money to anybody. If this was a normal customer and not a poker player I'm sure they would be going crazy.

I have stayed in hiltons all around the world. I've spent five figures in their hotels and restaurants and never received a problem. I played in over €50,000 worth of torunaments in their casino next door and was playing very high stakes cash games there. I have zero reason to lie and make this up and the money was 100% taken.

The hotel is amazing. I really, really loved it. I had great service from the reception notably Myrthe and Clarissa but the security manager and acting managers lied to me and treated me with no respect.

This is now unresolved and the only way I can get the money back is by going back to speak to the police in Malta which obviously Im not going to do.
Obviously the guy was a dumbass to leave cash unsecured in the room, but I believe the rest of his story.

He has 2700+ posts on 2+2 since December 2011. I haven't heard of any other issues with this poster.

Once again, an EPT-affiliated hotel has a shady staff which victimizes poker players.

Once again, the staff at the EPT does nothing about it, and puts zero pressure on the hotel to make it right or be truthful.

Once again, it seems Pokerstars and the EPT is more interested in covering up incidents like these than solving them.

Once again, it is clear that Pokerstars is good at running an online poker room, but bad at dealing with adversity at live events.

This stuff happens at the rio every year too right? Probably would happen anywhere like poker tournies take place because poker players are carrying cash more often than other degen or casual gamblers as they probably have cash on them most times and poker players are very careless.

While whoever stole this is at fault what do we expect to happen here? After all of the horror stories that are out there the best thing to do is be aware and not leave cash in the room because they will enter even if you ask them not too.

Druff, didn't you run into this problem multiple times of them barging in your room when you asked them to stay out of it?

You can get an AC powered (usb cable) motion activated camera on-sale for about $100.

Hide it - don't hide it.

If you travel a lot - the deterrence value alone is worth the price.

Leave the room service tip right next to the fucking camera for above board quid pro quo.

Everybody travels with laptops, jewelry, passports & you can't hide everything.

It's 2015 and these frequent travelers have forfeited their whining privalages.

What is PS supposed to do here? Go to the hotel and ask them to make sure the players don't get robbed?

I read this OP a few days ago and couldn't stop thinking how stupid the guy was for leaving the money out.

To me this sounds like some police sting operation where they abandon a truck full of wide screen TV's in some ghetto area and let the "thieves" rob the TV's and bust them.

The problem is that Pokerstars refuses to get involved when security at the hotel covers up or lies.

Pokerstars should get the hotel manager and the security manager in a meeting with them, and demand a truthful and honest resolution, with the threat of pulling the tour from there in future years.

Instead, they just let these security managers get away with lying to the victims without any kind of consequence.

    Same situation at EPT Barcelona.

My problem was a bit different.

The Rio has a policy of entering your room after 3 days of seeing Do Not Disturb.

I received the notice about this the day before and called to challenge it. They claimed it was for my "safety". I offered to let security inspect the room with me present, or to present myself at the front desk and show them that I'm fine. They agreed to just waive the rule for me and promised to keep the maid out.

Then I came up during a break and found the maid and others in my room. When I asked how this happened, the maid told me that she didn't want to do it (knowing that I asked her not to come in), but her supervisor made her, which I believed.

Apparently the supervisor was an asshole and decided to overrule both my request and what the front desk had agreed upon. He just went on a power trip and decided that nobody has the right to keep them out after 3 days.

So that's why I was pissed. Nobody stole anything. They didn't have a chance, as I got there and caught it within minutes of them entering.

Anyway, I hate the "blame the victim" mentality.

Yes, the guy was stupid, but that doesn't mean he deserved to be the victim of a criminal act.

Pokerstars is contracting out these third party hotels to run their EPT events, and that by extension becomes their responsibility. They can't just say, "It's the hotel's issue, deal with it yourself" or attempt to cover it up, because both they and the hotel are making a shitload of money from these EPTs, and at the very least they can advocate aggressively for players victimized by the staff there.

I'm not saying that Pokerstars should refund the guy's money (because there's no proof any was stolen, and because it could inspire copycat "victims" looking to gain from false claims), but they should lean on the hotel VERY hard to provide true and accurate info, and strongly threaten them to pull out completely unless these incidents stop.

Unfortunately, Pokerstars seems to take the attitude of, "Let's sweep this under the rug and make as few waves as possible". They don't want to pull out and lose the income it generates, so they don't want to threaten something they won't actually do.

Also, in general, Pokerstars is terrible at handling adversity at their live events, even at the PCA which they directly control.

Right but how can this guy prove there was any money? Not saying his is lying but if he were reimbursed wouldn't this open up a new avenue for scammers to just say "hey I was robbed of 3k"

I agree they can't just blindly reimburse in these spots.

But they need to ensure that the hotel gives honest answers and provides all evidence.

Clearly the hotel was not doing that here.
