I actually think he would have been fine if he didn't take the step and actively extort these people. A lot of sites, like Thedirty for example, will post pictures and accusations all day long with no fact checking at all which leads to peoples lives being ruined. I have seen numerous doctors for example get trashed on that site by bitter one night stands. All the guys hard work and medical school is now down the drain because of one post. The RipOffReport will let you destroy a company or person without any fact checking. You could argue what these two sites are worse in many cases than having your nude pictures online. In fact, at least you could pay the nude pic guy money and get the shit taken down.

The RipOffReport gets around the extortion charge by offering people a "reputation repair program" for thousands of dollars. It is a legal way to extort money from a person or business that is posted on the site. Thedirty also doesnt give a shit if what they posted is accurate. The more crazy outlandish stuff he can post the better as it just brings him more viewers and thus more ad revenue.

There is no doubt this guy is a piece of shit but is he anymore of a more of a piece of shit than the guys that operate thedirty and Ripoffreport "legally"?

18 years is ridiculous for what he did, and I feel like this was a case where some prosecutor or judge was trying to be a hero and make an example out of him. Maybe someone was up for reelection or something. The guy deserves to go to jail, but I would think more in terms of 5 years for something like this.

People can say what they want but yelp comes to the restaurant with different payment offers that will help them with the bad reviews.. 18 years!! Of course not. When it comes to intellectual property, you don't own it unless the creator explicitly grants you license in writing. Not to mention privacy laws in the US.

A few tidbits:

* 21 counts of identity theft, based on http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/di...0&file=528-539. This basically states that you cannot dox someone for profit.

* One count of conspiracy. Pretty sure that him hiring hackers to break into cell phones and steal images. Aggravating factors would include it being interstate, and the classic 'wire fraud' charges.

* He went to trial and fought the charges.


* At least one of his victims attempted suicide over this, and quite a few others lost their jobs over his website.

* His website averaged $900 a month in revenue


* He made an additional $30k charging people to remove content, which resulted in 6 counts of extortion.

* Not only did he post their pics, he posted their names, addresses, and social media data.


I'd say 8-10 years is the sane sentence here. Hes going to pound-me-in-the-ass jail, but more so hes going there for fucking with women. That puts him in a very special class of prisoners, and he can expect to come out with a lot of scar tissue, if he comes out at all.
