You see bumper stickers up there that say "Ithaca is gorges".
College students at Ithaca College & Cornell have committed suicide fairly regularly by jumping off the bridges.
This guys thoughts as he makes the final drive over the bridge with all his possessions in a cardboard box in back seat.
Liberal Arts schools.
I hate to be the one to defend Cornell here, but this was likely just an idiot bureaucrat not understanding what he was being asked, rather than support of an ISIS club.
The "student" with the secret camera baited him with terms like "freedom fighter" and "Islamic State", being careful not to mention the name ISIS. I think that this idiot assistant dean thought that this would be a club educating people about freedom fighting rebels within Islamic countries. I'm sure the "training camp" question also went way over his head.
This isn't a scandal. It's just proof that the assistant dean is a dumbass.
With that said, American universities tend to support the right to express all forms of offensive speech and viewpoints, with one notable exception -- the conservative viewpoint. Try to form a right-leaning group or newspaper on campus, and you'll get a startling amount of pushback.
