    Does anyone fear death?

I fear it all the time. My greatest fear is withering away with ALS or a debilitating disease that requires someone to take care of me.

I read more and more stories of euthanasia and it candidly freaks me out. I could not imagine getting pumped with terminal sleeping pills with everyone staring at me while I expire.

The other day I was on my phone and I walked out into traffic thinking I had the right away. I got pulled back by a citizen; I would have been run over by a cab, definitely killed as there was a bus behind the cab. It was the grace of God and the instincts of fellow man why I am even here typing on this site.

It's something I think about on a semi regular basis but I don't really fear it.

I am sure there have been many active posters on this site that died. We have no idea. When I say 'this site' I mean going back to NWP. There have been sustainable posters like myself, Popeil, China, Vegas, Tyde, etc...which continue to flourish. But there have been others that simply go away. Remember that poster on Tyde's site called Sheep Abuser in 2010? He was a heavy narcotics abuser. Where is he now?

I am willing to bet the 2008 users when I started, 1/5th are expired. When I say expired, I mean deceased.

Scary. Not many of us left now is there?

Lets not get so dramatic, I'll take over 80 % of active members in 2008 are still alive.
    I'll go over 90 %.

Have witnessed a couple hundred deaths along the way. Themes that reoccur.
The most religious people seem to fear death more. Don't get that.
Moderately religious people have very peaceful deaths with many times seeing religious figures or other passed loved ones in the room with them.
People critically ill unable to speak will follow something with their eyes throughout the room with a very peaceful look on their face before dying.
Nonbelievers struggle alot near the end.
People who have done a lot of sinning throughout their lives don't pass very peaceful. My friends brother was one of these I witnessed and shortly before his death reported a grim reaper type figure chasing him.

When with someone who is dying, open a window to let their spirit pass.
If waiting for family members to arrive and want to keep someone alive longer tie the corner of a sheet that covers them in a knot.

Tony seems to fear the potential process of death. There is no reason to suffer long. Hospice morphine is peaceful euthanasia. Any terminal diagnosis qualifies you for their services.

Don't know if fear is the right word. Definitely not looking forward to it. Been in a vehicle a couple of times when I thought that may be it and I was plenty scared both times.

Buried a friend I grew up with a couple of months ago. He knew something was wrong and was very afraid to the point of crying. Found out he had brain cancer and died a couple of weeks later.

I expect when my time comes I'll shit my pants.

I think the best thing to do is enjoy living and fear dying when there is no other option.

Did he find out he had brain cancer then died shortly after? Ironic if so....and what were his symptoms? Was it passed down?

Or did you just find out later in the game.

Not sure why I'm entertaining a post in this thread all things considered but whatever.

I don't really fear death but it's still something we all think about. At anytime I could have a freak accident where I walk outside fall down, crack my head open, and no longer am here. I could also live another 60 years so I don't want to think about death because when your gone you're gone.

With that said I'm not a crazy risk taker so I won't be jumping out of airplanes or whatever. The important thing people should do is try to fullfill dreams when they are younger whenever possible. If you want to travel to 25 different countries and have the money to do that then go for it.

Lately one thing I've thought about is I waste too much of my life playing internet poker and surfing the web, reading a forum like this,etc... While I enjoy it sometimes I get an empty feel of wanting to accomplish more. It's probably just a winter thing living here in Michigan where I don't go out as much as the spring and summer but just saying it gets repetitive so it can be boring in a sense of wanting to change things up.

I'll joke about a lot of things like a majority of us do but that was a serious moment of thought for a change.

As for former posters in the community here (and from NWP/old DD) most are still alive imo but they just have moved on.

It used to bug me when I was a late teen, being atheist and all. Now it still bugs me sometimes but more so in that once I die the world will continue without me. Essentially none of us are really important. It also bugs me that I'll never know where humanity is in several hundred years.

As for how many users have died since 2008... I'd be surprised if we had more than 2% of the user base kick the bucket.

Very nearly died when I was a kid. Had the whole cliched NDE, white light, tunnel etc.

Left me without a fear of death, my fear is a slow debilitating death. If that was ever on the cards I would take the quicker way out.

My biggest fear of death is that it is the ultimate, complete end to any recognizable shred of consciousness forever. Finito. Toast. Just like being under general anesthesia on the operating table. You may never even know you were ever alive and you won't even know you died because it could be the dark maw of complete unknowing forever and ever.

I try to enjoy life as much as I can, knowing how fleeting, frail, and fragile it truly is. I don't relish the thought of death being the final end to absolutely everything forever at all, but based on all the horrid things I've learned & experienced over the years it's increasingly becoming the only explanation that makes sense to me anymore.

The human brain is an incredible, exquisitely complex organ....but without oxygen for five minutes? Game over. Law of the Jungle, then we die.

Yuck. Not a pleasant thought, but there's nothing that can be done about what happens in the end.

    Depressing thread.

Everyone reading this thread right now was unlucky to have been born in this time, versus a few hundred years from now (or perhaps even less).

We are not all that far from advances which will greatly expand the human lifespan, but none of us will see it in our lifetime. It is possible that perhaps there will be such advances around the year 2100, but I doubt earlier than that, and none of us will be around in 2100.

At the moment, maximum human lifespan has been stalled. Despite the AVERAGE life expectancy going up, the maximum lifespan has remained the same. No man has ever made it to 117, and no woman has made it to 123. Only one person ever has made it to 120. Only 7 men have ever seen their 114th birthday.

I don't think we will see much change as far as that's concerned during our lifetimes. While nobody knows exactly when they are going to die, every dude reading this can be pretty certain he won't make 114.

One thing that WILL be different is the fact that a lot more information will be available about people's ancestors, thanks to the internet.

    Everything is being archived.

500 years from now, your descendants (if you have any) will be able to look you up in the internet archives from this time, and learn a lot about you. It is even possible that descendants of mine will listen to old PokerFraudAlert Radio archives to get an idea of what I was like.

Of course, I very well might not have descendants in 500 years. As I only have one child, if he either doesn't have kids, or his kids don't have kids, then it's pretty much game over for my bloodline. Benjamin is also the only male Witteles in the world born after 1976. So if he never has kids, or if he only has daughters, my family name will die, as well.
