PB FTW
condiment: a substance such as salt or ketchup that is used to add flavor to food.
How does peanut butter fit into this?
Spices are considered condiments?
Somebody didn't do their research.
Perhaps their resources were limited.

Are Herbs condiments, that's the question. But regarding your two questions.
1) How does peanut butter fit into this? Would you agree peanut butter is a substance?
Is peanut butter used to add flavor to a food? I would argue yes on both points.
2) ":condiment: a substance such as salt or ketchup that is used to add flavor to food."
Salt, although technically not a spice, is a substance and is used to add flavor to food. You'll notice salt is not in the bracket but I was sure someone might mention it.
Similarly spices; you may be pointing at Curries. Well I'm not sure of their official status but like many sauces, Curries, and the like, are a combination of spices and non spices, or carriers if you will.
OK I've seen people put peanut butter on hamburgers, but that's damn sick if you ask me.
I've also seen people spit chewing tobacco in beer and drink it. Does this make chewing tobacco a condiment?
Traditionally, peanut butter is a sandwich spread, and not used because people want their bread to taste like peanut butter.
Likely, there are some peanut butter enthusiasts out there that put it into everything they eat and have misled you into thinking their limited fanatical life styles are commonplace.
I have to disagree with you that peanut butter is a condiment.

peanut butter is not a condiment it needs coconut milk and a bevy of spices to even make it to a sauce that is useful in thai food looool at this clown poll
also no tomato sauce isnt a condiment either is this seriously what you trash people do with your trash lives
I would say if peanut butter is a main ingredient in something like peanut sauce, a common dipping product , then it qualifies as a condiment. It's a double agent for sure.
Tomato sauce I feel no need to defend.
Both apply to this definition.
condiment: a substance such as salt or ketchup that is used to add flavor to food.
I want this to end as a battle of Tomato sauce vs Salsa, because it's the same fucking thing really.
Exactly.
Put out a bowl of chips for a group, then add a bowl of Salsa and bowl of Tomato Sauce and record the results. If the aforementioned "condiments" were the same then both bowls should be consumed at approximately the same rate. Post results ftw.
disclaimer:
A tie. Peanut butter-Tomato sauce. Bound to happen but I'm a bit surprised it did with two foods that are so different. I'm inclined to use my judicial powers and rule that peanut butter moves on because a Canadian originally patented it and it's delicious, easy and many of us grew up loving it. A comfort food.
The Tomato is well loved and for good reason, but no one can decide what it really is. A berry, a vegetable or a fruit, depending on your source and I am suspicious of it for that reason alone. It will also finish off your finest dress shirt in the blink of an eye. It is versatile as well and can be used for things such as food fights although I've never seen it happen.
So, I'll give this until 12pm west coast time tomorrow for anyone wishing to influence the argument.
just curious....

Other Breakfast Condiments
A company with a little food history describes peanut butter as a breakfast condiment.
Your own definition of a condiment qualifies it as such.
Some of these products fit more than one category.
Have you ever tried a spring roll with a peanut dipping sauce?
Sriracha AKA cock sauce wins. Don't fucking argue with me!
