    East Coast People - Snow

I am new to this East Coast living. So far imo, it sucks major ass compared to the West Coast for many reasons. I get some people like East better than West so to each their own. It has only been made worse because of the snow. It is super depressing, as you cant really do anything. There is zero motivation to go anywhere. I couldnt even drive if I wanted to as my car is basically a bob sled on the ice. Is the standard practice really to just stay inside days on end? I find myself pacing with a beer in hand as the boredom and cabin fever is pretty intense. What do you guys do that work from home if the snow is just coming down non stop?

This was all made worse by talking today with someone i know in Santa Monica. Apparently it couldnt be nicer weather over there right now.

Can you believe there are many people who actually like this shit, think it is fun! and pretty! They actually root for MORE snow, for some odd reason.

Yeah it sucks but a boss like you surely has someone to handle these matters. Roads will be fine about 24 hours after it is over. Pay some nig to dig the car out if it is on the street. Ballerism can resume.

I'm from Chicago and I don't mind the snow. My wife was stranded in Massachusetts a few weeks ago and had to wait 4 days to get a flight back home.... I don't like things to stay the same so I like the changes in seasons a lot. However, the amount of snow is not normal, especially in this short of time. In New York i never really drive, just walk outside and take a cab... Also, for me the food is much better in New York than the West Coast.

There is no way to justify living year round in NYC or Boston. You are just biding your time during the winter.

Thing that gets me is how filthy the city looks in early spring. The tons of sand and salt dumped on the roads. When I bop down to Florida I am always struck first by how clean the cars all look.

I used to have a motorcycle. When spring came that urge to hit the streets is powerful. I laid it down more than once coming around a blind corner with the sand in the road.

There is a reason for the time honored tradition of the snowbirds splitting time between Florida and the northeast.

After a few beers, I have decided that going to Las Vegas tomorrow makes a lot of sense (assuming I can even fly out). Who is with me?

Great time for cooking, to start with. Also, for bong hits.

Seriously tho, its the day after the storm, what exactly are you looking to do that you can't do? Everything's open near me (save banks and other Pres Day-related closings), and we've been dumped on as bad as most. If you dont want to move your car, so be it, I understand, uber/taxi/limo/helicopter/walking works just as well, but don't say you are stuck inside, cuz you ain't. When I walked to the store yesterday afternoon, everyone I saw outside I talked to if only to say a quick hi or 'Holy fuck can you believe thsi shit?' type thing. Also, in past experiences, the worse the weather gets in the winter, the more fun bars and restaurants tend to be.

In general tho, if you stay inside, drugs and comfort food work wonders, and if you go out anywhere, drugs and comfort food work wonders.

It's terrible. I was born into this weather and I'm not nearly smart enough to get out.

D1 college baseball plays first game Feb 20th. I can't believe baseball starts as I look at 4 feet of snow.

Kid gets on the plane tomorrow to play in Texas, Cali but then Va.

Good luck playing at home before June.

Jesus H Christ, people on the West coast are softer than dog shit. The harsh Winter season builds character and breeds toughness.

snow in nyc is part of the nyc gestalt. its part of the experience. there is no shame in saying you want no part of it, its a lesson that cant be taught remotely.

Who wants to be tough when you can just go Blue Ribbon at the Cosmo follow by a massage and scotch? I have no desire to be any kind of winter hero here. There is no glory in pain and boredom.

But yes I agree with you. West Coast (especially LA residents) are total pussies compared to people on the East Coast

When I was a kid I played hockey on the lake by my house, so I didn't mind the winter, and I can remember at times thinking winter was too short (WTF was I thinking), plus you had snow forts, snow ball fights, school cancellation days, and you didnt have to drive in it, so all in all it wasn't too bad. When you get older you realize that January to Mid March sucks balls, even if you ski or snowmobile or something. Even if no new snow is falling, Its just dreadful to see the same 1 foot of snow on the ground day after day cause it never melts. Its depressing as fuck and yes you just stay indoors and get fat. Alot of retired folks smartly go to Florida or somewhere during the Winter months and then come back for the rest of the year (which is pretty decent for the most part).
