Pokernews no longer to cover WSOP live updates

    http://f5poker.com/poker-news/2015/1...official-live/

    From Seth Palansky:

There was once a day we got paid a significant amount by a third party to provide live reporting and split the traffic. Those days are gone. PokerNews asked for a nearly 200% increase this year to do the job and we simply can’t justify that expense in a traffic-sharing arrangement. We were pleased with PokerNews’ work and are sad that we won’t have them live reporting the 2015 WSOP.

They will hire someone else at a lesser amount.

Quality will suffer, and Poker News will be back in 2016.

In previous years, as the “official” team, PokerNews held the honor of being the only media outlet able to shoot video from the tournament floor – so while perhaps you’d catch their correspondents chatting it up with a player tableside, other credentialed media entities were forced to conduct their subjects in a media room or other designated area. So if the coverage comes in-house will everyone be able to get footage from the floor?

Palansky explains that video coverage from the tournament floor has little to do with anyone obtaining the “official” status and more so their contract with ESPN as well as security issues.

Do people still sweat WSOP events without having money or a close friend at a final table?

I can't think of a bigger waste of time.

I'm not sure whether you're suggesting that I go work for PokerNews or WSOP. The former already has a good team in place and the latter is overseen by a man that hates me.

As much as I love video editing, talking to interesting poker players, and seeing dreams come true, there are other aspects that I find completely miserable. I would rather flip burgers for the summer than cover another WSOP.

I thought that PokerNews (Tony G) paid the WSOP to be the "offical media of the WSOP" and the only media to do live updates which pissed the hell off of Cardplayer.

PokerNews sucks balls especially at the WSOP, most players chip counts aren't updated for hours, then when they have a final table, PokerNews fucks up the cards that are played.

    Good Riddance.

lol, can you imagine me running a media company? Nevermind the problems of capital, advertisers, and WSOP bureaucracy. I'm too mischievous and short-sighted. My boss had to reign in so many ridiculous ideas last year. Even then, a few trickled through. It's a miracle I didn't *ahem* get fired.

pay some mid-level pro to offer poker lesson to anyone who volunteers to do the live scoring.

Plenty of broke degens would likely do it for the lessons.

It changed over the years from where the media paid to cover the WSOP to where the WSOP paid to borrow the updates from the company covering it.

This occurred because there was no longer much online poker site money driving the media, so they weren't getting much return on covering the WSOP.
