Probably the stupidest thing I have ever heard. The manager should be allowed to shift his players wherever he wants

Seth Smith has about the same spray chart as David Ortiz.

It would be dumb to disallow shifts, but if it somehow does happen, i'd love to see how often Ortiz would get thrown out at first at this point of his career after a sharp grounder into right field.

Maybe stopping shifts is MLB's answer to the NFL calling defensive holding on every other pass play this year just to get more offense in the game.
