    400 "Viewers" on Flying Stupidity?

So, admittedly not the most active poster/user on this site. But it seems that I've never seen 400 viewers on Flying Stupidity...I usually see 100 or 200-something tops.

It's basically 7:30 am on the West Coast. What caused this number to be so high? What constitutes a "viewer" on these forums? Is Druff somehow SEO-dopin' in hopes of an eventual sale/blissful retirement?

So it went from 400 to 183 in about 5 mins. Weird but I assume it's just a problem with misreporting by the crappy vBulletin forum software that Druff himself chastises.

The entire board has like 450ish viewers right now on a sunday morning. I don't think the 400 number is high or weird or anything. Maybe Kevmath RT'd a link to this place. That's be good for a few quick hundo, no doubt, and if the software updated the number of visitors every 20 minutes or 15 minutes or something, something less than real time, those stats could be all over the place every time they refresh.

I think it is something like 15 minutes. You can set it at a number you choose.

It's a tough number to set, because if it's too low, it underreports the number of people online (since it takes a number of minutes to read a full 20-post page of a thread, especially if it contains long posts). If the number is too high, it overreports.

I once saw a fairly dead forum with a staggering number of people listed as being online -- like hundreds of registered users, and thousands of unregistered users. I was confused why almost none of them were posting. Then I browsed some of the "logged in" accounts, and saw that some hadn't been on in over a year! So the forum considered anyone who had ever been logged in as "online".

Why were there 400 viewers this morning? Could be a number of things, including a link from elsewhere, search engines indexing, etc.
