ID requirements at online sportsbook - is this standard?

So as you guys know, I'm trying to get established on 5Dimes.

There were some issues regarding deposit methods that I won't bother getting into, but an agreement was made that they would compromise with me if I sent in my ID.

So I sent in my ID with my driver's license # and signature redacted.

I was told that this is insufficient, and they need to see everything.

I cannot imagine why they would need my signature or DL#. I don't feel comfortable sending that off to Costa Rica or wherever.

Keep in mind that I am not making any credit card deposits. I would be buying prepaid cards (or alternately bitcoin) and depositing that way, so they have pretty much zero risk.

Besides, what is the point of the ID? Presumably to make sure that I am who I say, and redacting certain info should be fine for that purpose, provided my name, address, DOB, and picture are there (which they are).

So is this standard nowadays? Am I going to have to do this if I want to sign up for any offshore book?

I just don't like handing a copy of ID off to people offshore in a shady industry.

It's standard these days I'm sorry to say and more so if you want higher limits.

This is why you stick to quality books who have long time good reputations like 5Dimes has (for the most part a few complaints will happen anywhere) and not some little mutt joint that could be shady.

I started a thread a month or so back stating my concern with giving out the CVS# on the back of my credit card over the phone & everyone, including you, said my concern was probably an over-reaction & I'd have to decide whether to trust them & do it because that's just the way it was.

I kinda see this as a similar situation.

No, this is much worse for two reasons:

    1) These are foreigners working in a shady, illegal industry

    2) Giving out the CVV opens you up to credit card fraud, which is a pain in the ass but ultimately won't cost you any money. Identity theft is awful and hard to stop/reverse once it occurs. So I'm much more concerned about giving out my driver's license than a credit card number.

If you aren't sending info to Nigeria then all is safe.

Calm the fuck down dude. I meant it's "a similar situation" in the fact you have to decide whether to trust them or not.

Druff, Tony the Wop at 5dimes will ban your account in 5 seconds if you question anything they do. They aren't worth the time.

Had my debit card number stolen about 5 years ago(still not sure how). Somebody took a $500 Air Jamaica flight on my dime. Couldn't believe how easy and quick it was to get my money back through my bank.

    Still it did suck.

Can you give me some examples?

I know about that one guy who won 100x what he should have, thanks to a glitch in the odds, and then ran it up from there. Then Tony wouldn't cash him out, and a huge argument ensued.

But I actually saw Tony's point there, as this guy ran up a tiny bankroll through that glitch and was basically freerolling 5Dimes at that point.

What other stories are there about Tony?

(This is the link about the guy who ran his account up after the 100x glitch.)

OK, if you have "Dan" in your user name, it does not look good if you are dealing with Tony. BTW, pretty shady how there are personal threats in the chat session. Even though I'm sure I might've been pissed if I were him, that is not cool at all.

But 5Dimes does seem to have a pretty good long term (and I do mean LONG term) track record generally.

Boy, this is a tough one.

I just read this thread: http://forums.eog.com/showthread.php/360905-5Dimes-Tony

On one hand, it portrays Tony as a belligerent, arrogant asshole who acts as king of his castle.

On the other hand, even 5 Dimes' biggest critics concede that the book has always paid out quickly and reliably.

So it looks like a case of good book, bad owner.

One camp says, "Treat Tony fairly and he will treat you fairly."

The other camp says, "It's just a matter of time before Tony turns his attention on you and the situation turns into a nightmare."

Customer service is also universally described as "rude", and I already got a taste of that yesterday.

I can actually see both sides here.

On one hand, I mostly trust 5 Dimes not to run off with my money or slowpay me.

On the other hand, I hate giving business to a guy who treats his customers like shit (and will likely be a problem if I were to have any dispute.)

    So I'm torn.

5Dimes is one of the top rated, it shouldn´t be much risk.

For Carbon Poker my ID was not enough lol, they wanted a photo of me holding my ID. But i trust them - no big scandals, long history and they paid me.

Sometimes we little customers have no choice

The ID is two fold. 1 so they can prove who you are in case you try and do a credit card reversal after you deposit and lose. 2. So they know your not someone they already cut for betting sharp lines on props.

I already mentioned to you in the WT about issues with Tony and how they love to cut accounts and keep the money. There are a bunch of these stories online. But to your point it's always someone who bets a bad line or someone who bets on something after the event starts. Most other books will just no action the bet and be done with it. Tony says fuck you I'm keeping your roll.

I don't know if this helps but I also have sent my c.c numbers and back number as all as full I.d to Costa Rica for Americas card room which is not licensed anywhere I have lifelock ultra which moniters I.d. internationally. Also check credit karma several time a week.. No issues.....

Druff, this will not end well. Just play at Bookmaker/DSI or see if you can get an account at Heritage. Tony will not suffer your shenanigans.

This is actually what I'm worried about.

If I play on 5Dimes, I will pretty much have to be scared constantly that I'm going to offend Tony and/or their customer service somehow, and get banned. So if I chose to play there, I would basically have to become the anti-Druff and keep my head down.

I looked into Heritage. Like 5Dimes, they give reduced juice.

What do you mean "see if you can get an account at Heritage"? Are they restricted in some way?

Does anyone here play on Heritage? How fast do they pay? Have they ever had issues/scandals?

Also, I noticed 5Dimes has a maximum of 500 on reduced juice, and I like to bet 700, so that's another problem. Heritage has a limit of like 3000.

Heritage has mostly positive feedback. They are a book that was created a few years ago taking The Greek Sports USA customers.

I still think the people who are getting banned from 5Dimes went to extreme measures to do so or were just destroying the book otherwise they want all the business they can get. In this business you have a lot of degens who are stuck and will call up any book being the biggest asshole on the planet calling the reps a bunch of names which probably leads to them not wanting to deal with these people over someone who is just trying to milk every incentive out of them.
