I've never used OKCupid, although I have been told that it's the best of all the dating sites. Or at least it's best from the male point of view. Single male friends of mine have complained that the women on plentyoffish are easy but ugly, and the women on the other sites are more attractive but are either more prude or non-responsive to messages.
Now OKCupid has expanded its sexual preference list from the "big three" (straight, gay, bi) to ten choices:
- Straight
- Gay
- Bisexual
- Asexual
- Pansexual
- Questioning
- Demisexual
- Heteroflexible
- Homoflexible
- Sapiosexual
Asexual is the strangest one, as you wouldn't think an asexual person would be on a dating site.
From what I understand, pansexual means you are potentially attracted to everyone, regardless of gender, race, age, or physical appearance.
"Questioning" is obvious, but I've never heard of demisexual (attracted to Gods?) or sapiosexual.
I assume that heteroflexible is what fluffer claims to be, and homoflexible is what fluffer actually is.
I just looked up "demisexual", and I see it refers to being asexual with the exception of when you become deeply romantically involved with a person, at which point sexual attraction starts. In other words, a demisexual person is never putting out on the first date, or probably even in the first year.
Sapiosexual means you are attracted to intelligence, but I don't see how that's a sexual preference. I would think that being attracted to intelligence is a subset of your general sexual preference, but not a preference itself. So like a guy who only dates intelligent women is still straight, but just finds intellect to be important to him in a partner. I think anyone listed as "sapiosexual" is probably really pretentious and should be avoided.
I wonder how many sexual preferences there will be in 20 years. Over/under 100?
If you think that's hard to understand, Facebook now has 58 gender selections you can choose.
