I know this story is about three days old now, but I'm going to throw it out there for ridicule/discussion. Gruber is an MIT and Harvard educated economist who helped write the "Romneycare" plan from Massachusetts. I don't buy into him being a key architect of the ACA, but he was definitely a technical advisor.
A lot of people are making a big deal about him calling the American people stupid which I agree with to a degree. That said, in the context of the U.S. tax he was speaking of, most normal people do not have a full understanding of its workings. The biggest surprise to me was that he admitted that they had to intentionally mislead the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) to give the bill a chance to pass.
