I don't get why Michaels/Collinsworth made such a big deal about calling the timeout. Raiders weren't going to kneel down. They were always going to run the ball there to try to get in FG range while keeping the clock running. So Chargers called a timeout to get ready on D. And they still failed. Nothing wrong with the timeout though IMO.

I understand your position. But the play the Raiders ran after the timeout does not support your position.

The Raiders ran the ball after the timeout. Which is exactly what they looked like they were planning to do before the timeout was called. Any competent defense should have stuffed them in that spot, and the FG attempt would have been 55 yards, and who know what happens. If the timeout had motivated the Raiders to call a play giving them a higher EV to win they would have thrown the ball there.

Carr can say whatever he wants, but we all saw the play they ran. It was a run play that gained 10 yards, to set them up for a 47 yard FG attempt. Who runs the ball in that spot if they are really trying to maximize their chance to win the game and say FU to the other team? No one.

Did the timeout motivate the Raiders to try harder to better execute the play they were going to run anyways? I guess that is possible. But not sure you should be putting Staley through the hot take machine because of that. Staley made plenty of seemingly -EV decisions over the year. But I am not sure this was all that bad.

If anything you could argue the Raiders should have been MORE AGGRESSIVE after the timeout, to maximize their chance of playing the Bengals instead of the Chiefs next week.

I will listen to RJ Bell discuss it tomorrow and report if he says anything insightful.

Also, I talked about it in the other thread. I took Alabama. IMO Alabama clearly has the better coaching staff, that has been here before. Is it possible Smart will outcoach Saban today? Or is it possible they have such a massive personnel advantage they can overcome inferior coaching? Sure, I guess it is possible. But that is not where I am putting my money.

Also, I am kind of pissed off at my book right now, because I won 4 digits in NFL futures that weren't graded, and I have no clue when they will be graded. And I square up at the end of every week which means the book gets to sit on my money for an extra week (at least, for all I know they are planning on holding it till after the Super Bowl) for no reason.

This is doubly annoying because in CFB I lost overall with futures, and those were graded the second the season ended, and I had to pay up the next Monday. In fact one of them was actually graded one week early, and I still payed up.

*I had California O6. And they were technically eliminated but still had to play a makeup game during conference championship week, and the future was still graded and I still paid it off a week before they played their last game.

Yeah, I didn’t see your bet. I didn’t think anyone would bet against GS in that spot. I kind of mentally get a number in mind before I even check the line on what I’d want. With the emotion of Klay coming back, in my head, it was legit like +19. When I looked in the morning it was +10. Later it was +8. I didn’t know Draymond was a symbolic start, so that definitely would have lowered it.

Either way, Cavs have a serious issue atm with offensive rebounds. Okoro is best perimeter defender and hurt. Rubio is sneaky good defender and done. Their bigs have to contest every 3 and they’re getting killed on second chances and offensive rebounds because they are 29 feet from the rebound and their other guys are slow to the ball. GS shot like 22 more shots because of it and it would have been worse if they hit their 3s. They also are commuting a lot of turnovers trying to force ball inside and down Rubio. They went from very good to a little better than average.

Cavs will be a very selective choice against badly coached poor teams for awhile.

We are gonna make an exception here. I trust the NFL is gonna do some testing hocus pocus for the playoffs. NFL has been caught fucking around with their Covid rules (ex Cleveland) so it’s not just wishful thinking on my part.

I still give the bet a 5 on the dumb scale.

I haven’t bet anything yet. Just put what I liked. I am guessing any mandatory testing that needs to be done will be done today to give players enough time to “feel all better” by the weekend. So I think if we wait until Wednesday we are good there. Plus we can get some weather info.

we're in similar headspaces here. I'm going heavy against PA football this weekend, especially the steelers.
