because .22's don't make as much noise other calibers--and you said there was a boom....and most .22 rifles nowadays are semi-autos (AR-15 sytle or Ruger 10/22 type), thus there was plenty of opportunity for multiple shots, but you heard only one shot
so could the shot have been a bolt action type rifle with a larger caliber? that would allow for greater distance

That is what I was thinking. What kind of cartel person would be carrying a 22? I got a 22 rifle when I was like 9 which was only a slight upgrade to my BB gun and pellet gun. Basically they are good for taking out squirrels and target practice. If it made it through a back window I find it hard to believe it would penetrate much more of the interior of the car. So iif it was a 22 and you dont see any more holes in the car it is probably on the floor of the car. There is almost no chance there would have been shrapnel. At most probably the front of the bullet would be pressed in from the impact after going through the back window. The only time i have seen shrapnel from a 22 bullet is when I accidental shot a rock.
If it was a higher caliber you would almost certainty have a more damage to the interior of the car. As a 45 for example would fuck some shit up once it made it through the back window.

right...this is a full auto .22 caliber--and the shot sound is hardly a boom, more a snapping sound...more common now for .22 rifles are semi-auto AR-15 or 10/22 Ruger type...thus if a .22, why not multiple shots?
a single round of .22 needs good shot placement to be lethal for humans (brain or through the heart), 22 usually don't make big enough holes in humans to bleed the victim to death as larger calibers do
