How about those orthodox Jews though, yuck

Say What!?!
In 2002, I spent Shabbat evening with an orthodox Jewish family in Brooklyn.
It was one of those terrible NYC August nights where the temperature hasn't dropped a bit from its sweltering high during the day, and it's extra humid to the point where thunderstorms are coming on and off.
Well, apparently some Orthodox Jews engage in trickery in order to still use power during Shabbat yet supposedly not violate the rules of the sabbath. They determined that as long as you are not physically switching on a device, it is still considered okay to derive benefits from it being on during Shabbat. I guess this originated with modern Jews figuring out how to deal with the fact that devices such as their refrigerator will still use electricity -- dilemmas not experienced by the ancient Israelites. So these clever modern Orthodox Jews set timers on devices they will need during Shabbat, so they can still utilize them.
This Orthodox home had its air conditioner on a timer. Indeed, after the sun went down, the thing kicked on by itself, and the apartment was relatively comfortable.
Now, you might ask, "Why does an ice cold AC unit need a timer in order to run by itself? Can't it just be set at a certain temperature, and click on and off according to that?"
Yes. But you're forgetting -- this was a Jewish household. They found it to be wasteful to have AC running at night while people were sleeping, so they didn't want it simply to cool the house to a certain temperature. They only wanted the house cooled while people were awake.
So it was set to shut off at 10pm, which was the typical bedtime there.
The problem was that we stayed later than that, and the apartment quickly became sweltering hot and humid.
I tolerated this for about 30 minutes, before finally claiming I was tired and leaving.
No idea how people can sleep this way. It's brutal when you fall asleep and then wake up to the room being hot and uncomfortable.
Listen, fellas. I think we can all agree that we hate the Jews. Can we please keep the hate in this thread focused on the goddamn hipsters.
What about those special faggots that wear the dslr cameras around their necks everywhere they go.
