The biggest problem with the move has been the internet here in Ensenada. I live literally right on the coastline and there is only one (ISP) 'Telnor' and they fucking suck. It's only a 5 meg connection and my Skype is useless now....it took them 9 days to come out and hook me up. (hence the rumors of my death because of excessive internet absence)

Ensenada is very chill and I haven't felt threatened a single time since I've been in Mexico

I feel safer here than I ever did in Fuckbag, Oregon or driving around Sacramento

the police state in the U.S. is out of control

people down here run stop signs and there are plenty of cars that don't even have plates....bottom line is that the municipal police and even the federales don't give a fuck ...they are looking for drug dealers and criminals...not looking to pop some poor sap for not coming to a complete stop

if worst case scenario I did get stopped by the cops driving to the store for some tequila or beer and was a little lit...the worst thing they are going to do to me is tap me for a few hundred pesos

the cops here can't be bothered with mundane shit for the sake of generating revenue...and they don't care about your license, registration or insurance...that's for damn sure

I live in a very peaceful part of Ensenada and there is nothing but good karma here...no crime

bottom line is if you aren't out looking for trouble here....trouble isn't going to come looking for you

I'd like to add that 3 days after I moved in my condo in Rosarito, my neighbors were telling me that 4 people were gunned down in broad daylight not even a week before on my same street.

But that complex was next to some kind of covert Mexican military facility. They were always doing work on the poles and electronics and the place has stationed Mexican army guards usually standing outside brandishing AK-47's or whatever

The cartel has a huge stronghold in Rosarito, it was pretty obvious

Not so much in Ensenada

there is most definitely a criminal element here, don't get me wrong.

I'm not claiming that it's some kind of 'crime free' Utopia by any means...but where I live, there is very low drama, and a lot of residents just enjoying the beach and fishing and getting drunk.

got 3 delicious shrimp, battered fish, and carne tacos today for a grand total of 47 pesos.....I think that's less than 4 bucks apprx

bought a shitload of pine for my open air barbecue and fire pit for less than 25 bucks

a lot of upside to being in Mexico
