It's a cash game at Commerce Casino. We will call them "John" and "Chris".

John has at the table longer than Chris.

As is common at most card rooms, the rules at Commerce state that the player who has been at the table longer has first choice in seat moves, and in fact can overrule other players who start to move to a seat and say "Actually, I'll take that seat".

Chris wanted to move to a seat immediately to John's left. He threw a dollar chip to "lock up" that seat, but did not move anything over there because he was playing to his blind, which would take another 5 minutes.

Just as Chris stood up and was getting ready to move his chips over to the new seat, John piped up and said, "Are you taking that seat? Actually, I want it."

Chris felt he had the right to the seat because John hadn't said anything about it for 5 minutes. He asked, "Why didn't you say anything when I threw my dollar chip over there 5 minutes ago?"

John replied, "I didn't see you throw it. I didn't know you were moving here until now. Had I known, I would have said something when you did."

There is little question that, by Commerce rules, John has the right to the seat. A player is not considered "in" his new seat until he actually sits there and nobody objects.

Knowing he would lose a challenge to the floorman, Chris gave up and stayed where he was. He made several angry and nasty comments to and about John, regarding the situation, feeling a breach of etiquette had occurred.

Do you feel that this was a breach of etiquette, or was John in the right here? If you were John, would you have let Chris take the seat?

One note before you decide: The act of "overrulling" seats based on seniority at the table is very standard and common at Commerce, so that's not what this was about. Had John immediately said to Chris, "No, actually I want that seat", there would have been no issue. The question is whether John committed an etiquette breach by saying it 5 minutes later, because he apparently hadn't seen that Chris was going to move until Chris stood up to do so.

Shouldve read the whole thread before I replied thus Im deleting my response but anybody who read it I stand by my statements upon just initial read.. I figured their had to be some history between the two individuals in question. I agreed that John had right to refuse but also felt it wasn't handled well.

Slight tangent, but the bigger limit, limit games, always seem really dour. If you see a 10-25NL game going you'll see people (not always but often) laughing and seemingly having a good time. Whereas if you ever see a black chip limit game, it's usually quiet and everyone looks grumpy.

It's weird because I would think it would be the other way around since you never have a big decision to make in limit. Probably speaks more to the type of personality that limit attracts vs no-limit.

In Atlantic City seniority doesn't matter. It's whoever has the seat move chip first, second, third etc. When you sit down at a table you can ask for a seat move chip. Usually clear. Whoever has that. If not, it's anyones seat

Same at Foxwoods and Mohegan, can't believe Commerce doesn't use seat change buttons

Everyone here knows my history, but even I am getting tired of Fluffer. Like whats his point here? About 90% of his posts are just trolling Druff. I dont even like Druff but fuck Fluffer is annoying. And it really has resorted to calling Druff's woman fat? Like thats what we are down to now? He's also taken shots at Druff's kid in the past too, in a veiled sort of way.

Never EVER have a I seen a guy toss a chip requesting a seat change while he plays threw his blinds, then having it sit there for five minutes without objection and then being denied. I'd be pretty fucking pissed if that happened to me and I have a reserved personality.

Opposite imo. Fluffers trolling of Druff comes across as light hearted and often pretty funny. Would also put the percentage lower than 30.


Doesn't carry the same nastiness of others who have targeted him in the past.

I understood his annoyance initially, but once I told him I didn't see beforehand that he threw the $1 chip, he should have dropped it.

It's not like he moved all of his things over and THEN I said it. That would have been a huge dick move on my part. Here he hadn't done a thing to move yet, so it was just a matter of a delayed objection.

100% I wouldn't have been pissed if the reverse occurred.

Btw this guy never gave any money to Mike Borovetz at the airport. You're confused.
