Don Pardo, Saturday Night Live announcer, dead at 96

The amazing thing is that he was still the announcer on SNL at the age of 96, which I didn't know. I had assumed they were using a sound-alike (though I hardly watch it anymore, so perhaps he identifies himself at the end and I didn't hear it). How does one still have the voice to announce at 96? Apparently Don did, though to be honest, Vin Scully sounds the same as always, and he's 87.

He was also the announcer on "Jeopardy" in the '60s and '70s (before the Alex Trebek days), and even made fun of himself in a Weird Al song called "I Lost on Jeopardy".

He wanted to retire in '04 and they wouldn't let him. He flew in from AZ every week for the show until a few years ago when they started letting him broadcast from home.

Darrell Hammond did double him at one point when he was out.
