Post office trip report:
First off, this took a lot longer to put together than you would think. I had to collect everyone's info and hat requests, including any missing info. I actually had to correct a few addresses where people accidenntally left off parts (such as the city name or street suffix) but I was able to deduce it from the rest of the address. I didn't have time to ask for these corrections because I only scrutinized them today.
Then I had to print out the labels with both the recipients' addresses and my return address. I don't have a label-making setup, so I just did it with label paper and throwing all of your addresses into MS Word lockdown.
Then I had to cut each of your addresses off the label paper (as well as my return address), then stick them on the envelopes, like I was doing a cut-n-paste project back in 1st grade.
Then I had to sort everything by hat color, and load up each envelope.
I probably should have hired Ken Scalir to do this, but he's lousy at stuff like this anyway, so I wouldn't trust him to get it right.
Next, I had to find 3 boxes big enough to fit all of the envelopes yet small enough to fit in my car.
There were 3 postal workers with stations open, and a line of about 10 people.
Next I drove down to the post office. Six of you live in Canada, and one lives in England. So all of you needed customs forms, which I had to fill out individually. Shipping was also 3-4x more expensive for each of those. I got the customs forms right away and filled them out on the side. Then I got on line, leaving those 3 boxes sitting on the side.
When it was my turn, I dragged the 3 boxes over to the station.
I explained what I needed to do, and the woman first took the tougher ones (the international packages). After those were done, she started on the domestic ones. The woman in the line next to me was suddenly open, and nobody was in line. She offered to take a good share of the packages, as well, to speed things up.
These two women worked furiously (surprising to see at the post office) to process all of these.
I kept adding packages to each counter when there was room.
In the meantime, about 10 more people showed up, and there was only one postal worker to take care of them. The PFA hats were taking up 2/3 of this post office's capacity! I felt bad for these poor fools in line, so as it got closer to the end, I told one of the women to stop processing the hats, and I paid for what she had done. I then moved the remaining hats to the other station. Had I not done this, the two employees would have let everyone stand there while I took up two stations! (The third station was held up, as well, by an old woman customer who didn't know what she wanted to do.)
Finally it was all done, and the hats were ready to go out.
I'm sure it was a stressful way to end the day for these employees, as I showed up around 5pm. This branch was open 'til 6pm.
For those of you that didn't receive hats, I will send a second batch sometime in the near future. However, only white remains, as the supply of blue and black has been exhausted.
You should get these between 2-7 days, depending upon where you live. Maybe a bit longer for the international ones.
Don't feel bad for the postal workers at the front. You are contributing to them having jobs as they will be soon replaced with automated machines. As for the people waiting in line, tough shit for them. I do the same thing shipping a lot of stuff from time to time and mention that I am holding up the line and they laugh. They don't care if someone waits 20 seconds or 20 minutes to get their stuff shipped out. At least your packages were straight forward. I think they rather do that than answer stupid questions about first class vs priority vs express from customers all day long every day.
Thanks for shipping them Druff. I will post back when I receive mine which I assume will probably be early next week.
Hats ahoy!
Gracias, Druff! Made the couple thousand mile trip pretty fast. Looks good.
I got mine too. Thanks Druff!
I got mine. Thanks Druff.
Mine arrived today, my thanks to Druff!
Hat received...thanks Druff.
Looking good.
I'm not gonna lie Druff, this is a nice looking hat. This isn't a trucker style hat that nobody will wear. I'm not sure what you paid, or who designed these fuckers, but it was money well spent. Thanks again and I will proudly wear it to my golf tourneys.
received mine. thanks druff.
