I had a similar incident to "Joe's" occur, only on a larger scale, and it hits at the main point of what "Joe" experienced so I figured I'd share it.
Dominoes has a deal where if you order two or more you get as many medium pizzas as you want for $5.99. My son was having a b-day party and as I have in the past, I used Dominoes because of this deal -- I hate their pizza but all the kids like it because they serve it at school.
So in the middle of a kid's b-day party I'm on my phone in my garage to avoid the noise and ordering 8 pizzas, and just trying to get it over with as fast as possible, so I wasn't really paying attention and didn't hear the price. I get the bill from the delivery guy and it's like $91 (seems high, but like I said I'm a bit distracted), so I sign the receipt and realize about two minutes later they charged full price and didn't apply the $5.99 deal.
No big deal, I'll just call tomorrow, and get a store credit.
So I call and explain the situation, and the guy is giving me a shit ton of attitude and offers me a free pizza, as in ONE, which pissed me off since the bill was off by over $30 by my calculation.
Apparently this "offer" which is plastered all over their website has some fine print and has to be stated at the time of ordering (online it's automatic). I explain to the guy that if he looks through my order history he'll see I always take advantage of it, so I'm aware of it, but he's not budging for some reason, and saying its only a couple dollars per pizza. So at first I'm getting mad and giving him the home office spiel (I worked in fast food as a kid and know that whenever someone calls the home office they get a double refund and the DM rains down hell on the GM, so they always try to avoid it) but then something clicked and I changed course and decided to play the "look I'm not trying to be a dick and not looking for money, I just want the appropriate amount credited and that's not 1 pizza" card.
So he chills a little and starts asking questions about my order. Turns out this guy is using caller ID and looking at my order history from my home phone and not from my cell phone, so he must have thought I was scamming him or something. When I finally explained I had ordered 8 pizzas and gave him my cell # his tune changed and he credited me $30.
He also stated that he would now have his employees mention the offer to anyone who ordered a bunch of medium pizzas as it was in his words "misleading" since it's not a coupon or promo code but an offer on their website available to anyone.
It took 10 minutes longer than I had hoped, but still 15 minutes isn't that much time to give up.
