Obama executive order to force 'diversity' in thousands of US neighborhoods
A report published this morning by The Hill says President Barack Obama is pressing forward with new Department of Housing and Urban Development regulations that will withhold block grants to communities if they don’t build enough "affordable housing in wealthy neighborhoods." The executive order, known as the “Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing Act,” was issued by the president last year and will be used to promote racial quotas in white suburban neighborhoods. It will also force thousands of communities to house the nation’s burgeoning population of new immigrants.
“HUD is working with communities across the country to fulfill the promise of equal opportunity for all,” a spokesperson for the federal agency said, according to the Hill report. “The proposed policy seeks to break down barriers to access to opportunity in communities supported by HUD funds.”
In other words, it doesn't matter that the families who currently live in these neighborhoods worked hard to achieve their American Dream. It is racist to deny that same outcome to those who haven't worked for it. It should just be handed to them out of "fairness."
According to the Hill, "HUD says it is obligated to take the action under the Fair Housing Act of 1968, which prohibited direct and intentional housing discrimination, such as a real estate agent not showing a home in a wealthy neighborhood to a black family or a bank not providing a loan based on someone’s race."
The Hill quoted Debby Goldberg, vice president at the National Fair Housing Alliance, who said the country has “a history of putting affordable housing in poor communities, and this regulation would rectify that perceived bias."
World Net Daily was the first news outlet to report on the new HUD rules in an article published last July. The regulations are due to come into effect later this month. In order to qualify for federal grant money, WND says "cities would have to look at their communities’ patterns of segregation and devise plans to counter them."
The president is pushing the plan in spite of widespread public opposition to his executive order. The Hill report says the regulations will impact up to 1,250 municipal governments across the nation.
There is currently an effort underway in the House of Representatives to block the new regulations. Rep. Paul Gosar, (R-AZ) is spearheading that effort.
“American citizens and communities should be free to choose where they would like to live and not be subject to federal neighborhood engineering at the behest of an overreaching federal government,” Gosar told the Hill.
Heritage Foundation fellow Hans von Spakovsky told the Hill that "the regulations seemed to be yet another way for Obama to inject race into a policy discussion."
“It’s a sign that this administration seems to take race into account on everything,” von Spakovsky said in a statement to the Hill.
House Republicans are trying to block the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing rule by amending HUD's funding bill this week with language that would prohibit the agency from enacting the new regulations. HUD claims that the new rules will break down racial barriers, but Gosar believes the regulations will have negative repercussions.
“Instead of living with neighbors you like and choose, this breaks up the core fabric of how we start to look at communities,” Gosar said to the Hill. “That just brings unease to everyone in that area.”
“People have to feel comfortable where they live,” he added. “If I don’t feel comfortable in my own backyard, where do I feel comfortable?”
Critics also say the regulations are designed to skew the voter demographic in areas that have traditionally voted Republican. By moving minorities into the neighborhoods, the left hopes to win elections in districts where they previously had few voters.
