    Vegas Off-Strip Restaurants

Meeting up with a local friend when I am in Vegas later this month. I asked where she wanted to go for dinner and she said "some place nice". I could find a million places on the strip to eat but since she's local would love to find someplace off the beaten path.

    Don't say Morton's.

Also Tacos Mexico is god but sadly not appropriate for this occasion.

Batista's Hole in the Wall sucks.

It isn't "off strip", but is actually right across the street from Bally's in a highly touristy area (Flamingo, slightly east of the LV Blvd.)

It masquerades as an old-style, family-owned Italian restaurant which isn't full of strip gimmickry and inflated prices.

Except that's exactly what it is.

It's a low-quality, overpriced restaurant aimed exclusively at tourists. They even serve really terrible wine there which is "included" in the price (I honestly should have just walked out when I heard that policy.)

Here are some Italian restaurants off-strip which I've either been to or have heard had good reputations:

Gaetano's (Henderson): http://www.usmenuguide.com/gaetanos.html ... Not close to strip but good reputation

Capo's Speakeasy (Sahara, east of strip): http://www.caposrestaurant.com/ ... Modeled after a prohibition-era speakeasy, they actually have a locked front door where they "check you out" before letting you in. Kind of a fun atmosphere to take a date, and not too over-the-top or stupid. Food is decent.

Luna Rossa (Henderson): http://lunarossalakelv.com/ ... Not close to strip, but just good-quality, tasty Italian food. I ate in their downtown LV location a few times until they closed it. The only problem with the downtown LV location was a poorly designed building that was freezing in the winter (never went during the hot months), which probably contributed to its failure. This is a different building in a different location, but with the same ownership and menu.

Here is a cheap and good place to go for breakfast:

Egg and I (on Sahara, east of strip): 4533 W Sahara Ave #5 ... if you are not in that area, they have other locations called "Egg Works" (basically the same thing) http://www.theeggworks.com/contact.php

I think they're open 'ti like 2:30pm or 3pm. No dinner.

We've still got a few weeks so let's pick something solid.

    Mexican suggestions welcome as well.

    Yes, it's that place.

Did you find the food awful? I didn't. It wasn't lol-wow-great but not anywhere near awful. Admittedly I haven't been there in like 2 years, so perhaps it went downhill.

Food-wise, the other two I posted are better, but they are in Henderson which might be a pain in the ass.

Oh and by the way I know that this is on strip but you gotta check out Rx Boiler Room at the Mandalay Bay mall. Great food in a steampunk atmosphere which I believe is in your wheelhouse.

I'll have a car but yeah a ride into Henderson might not be ideal.

I normally take a trip to Henderson for Nacho Daddy when I visit. Heard they have a location Downtown now though.
