    Belmont Stakes, bets/thoughts????

Going to be there tomorrow, curious what people are taking / like. Obv if you are going to bet chrome, put him in exotics and take him to place or show (both may pay more than an actual win bet).

I like tonalist/samraat/ wicked strong (my fav to beat chrome, hopefully he doesnt stumble like he did in derby...)

Like Tonalist and Wicked Strong hate Samraat, he has less of a chance of getting the distance than Chrome.

I am betting against Chrome and never will have been happier to rip apart the tickets if I lose.

There will be a ton of win bets on Chrome for posterity purposes. I am guessing he might go off 2/5 or 1/5 and there will be great value on Wicked Strong and Tonalist just on the win bets.

Depends dude, driving I would get there early or be prepared to park like a mile or two away. By train from penn (well really Jamaica which is how i'm getting there), you can come whenever. You can bbq in the parking lot, but be careful with beer as cops can give you ticket tomorrow for it... only day of the year they are super strict on alcohol at belmont. It's usually a mad house around there, have gone 2 years in a row.

Place will most likely pay more than a win bet on him. Show may also pay the same as a win bet TBH or just under.

Why not just do something like this?

I don't bet the ponies but aren't you allowing yourself to cash in a dece profit if a dog comes in with the upset?

Another 3 hour dick tease for California Chrome.

    I feel so unsatisfied.

No triple crown, very unlikely to happen again.

The horse that won avoided entering the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, just so he would have a better shot at winning the Belmont. That shit shouldn't be allowed.

The owner's right so fuck you.

If Tonalist was such a great horse why didn't they run him in the Kentucky Derby or Preakness?

The reason California Chrome lost was because the jockey held him back instead of maintaining the lead, the horse became fatigued and couldn't close it out.

And because the rules for racing the triple crown, you can have a great horse, not run him in the Kentucky Derby or the Preakness then only run him in the Belmont.

Don't you see the disadvantage here?

The whole idea of the triple crown is to identify an alltime GREAT horse not to identify the best 3 yr. old horse of that year. You have to win all 3 & the adversity that goes with it to be a great horse & not just a pretty good one. If they did what he was advocating we'd have a triple crown winner every 3-5 years & that would diminish what it even means. I was cheering for CC to do it because I wanted to see an all time great horse but I didn't see it. No great horses sat out the Derby or Preakness, maybe some good ones but not great.

    Do you seriously want that?

From what I gathered from the owners ridiculous interview was he was upset that his legacy in the industry wasn't fulfilled, not the horse's. He probably knew it was his only/best shot @ glory. Too bad so sad, he should have STFU because he embarassed himself.

edit: as for the disadvantage thing: you do realize there was a winners purse of over $1 million don't you?

California Chrome was also too overly favored to win 4/5, +200 to win triple crown.

    Ridiculous.

I hope the next year or two, when the next "great" horse wins the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, that they say "fuck you" to New York and don't run the horse in the Belmont.

Too many horses get burned out and ruined pursuing this triple crown bullshit.

The extra 1/4 of a mile on the racetrack is too much for the horse to overcome.

Very unlikely that there will ever be another triple crown champion.
